Annual Passes, are there discounts on them?

We just booked a trip for January with the AP discount and now I need to purchase APs for my family this year and it is our first time getting them. Are there ways to get deals on them or are they the same price across the board? What is the best way to get them?

Thanks for the help!
Mike

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe the only discount available on the initial purchase of an annual pass is a Florida resident discount. However, you do get a discount when you renew your annual pass. Hope this helps.

This is absolutely correct. There isnt any sort of a discount ( besides renewal) for an Annual Pass. They are well worth the money though and have you looked into the discounts available at the resorts for Passholders?? Belle

There was a thread a while back about some round about way to save money on an AP, but seemed complicated. It involved buying another type of ticket (a parkhopper or something) online and then upgrading it at the park. Somebody else may recall the details more clearly.

Thanks all for the replies. We did book a trip for January through Kingdom Konsultants and got an AP discount and now I just need the passes. Pam does not handle APs so I just had wanted to find out the best way about them. Now at least I know there are no deals on the passes but where do I get them? What is the best way?

Thanks again,
Mike

At any of the parks(MK, EPCOT, Studios, AK) or guest services in Downtown Disney. Also, I believe you can purchase a "voucher" for the AP online at the Disney website and you used to be able to get it at the Disney Store. The voucher then needs to be redeemed at any of the above-mentioned locations.

Hi MIke !

I bought mine at the Disney Store, and I think you might be able to get one through AAA. Unless you know that you will be making several trips in the course of the year, you can save by only buying one annual pass and just regular hoppers for everyone else. The only thing you have to be sure about is that the person under whose name the room is booked MUST be the Annual Passholder.

I got the AP for me. It is doubtful that my husband or my oldest daughter will be able to make more than one trip. He works TOO much, and come September she will be in her senior year of high school. I hope to make a spring trip with my Rosebud and my sister-in-law, with her grandson. Then I want to take a trip just my oldest son and I next October. ( I mean, I DO have to get my value out of the AP, right ? )

Hi Anna,

That is great news. My wife and I are suppose to discuss tonight about a possible trip for next year because we will have the APs. If it looks like that won't happen, I may do just what you suggested. I am hoping I won't have to and that we will go again next January but we will see.

I will get my vaucher(s) as soon as I decide I guess. I need to have them before we arrive at the resort I believe.

Thanks again,
Mike :)

What you get at the Disney Store is a voucher for the pass to be activated. Actually, its nicer that the pass will be ! The voucher is a hard plastic thing about the size of an airline ticket. From what I have learned, you can stop at Downtown Disney and activate the voucher before you check-in. Also, you can show the voucher and MOST often you can check-in with just that. ( makes sense, because once you buy it it is non-refundable.) Then you go to guest services at any of the parks and they take your finger scan and give you the actuall pass. Once its activated then you get the super secret insider e-mails !!! ( of course, I think you can find most of the information here anyway. ) There have been a few instances reported of people who were not allowed to check-in with the voucher , and my confirmation on the deposit does say "eligible annual/seasonal pass required at check-in."
I'll let you know how it goes for me in December !

do you get discounts on things in the stores and on the resturants in the parks.

You get discounts at restaurants, hotels, and things like Disney Quest or mini putt golf. Your A/P comes with a little book of things made cheaper with an A/P. Also, you can always ask the person who is ringing up your merchandise if there's an A/P discount. The worst they can say is 'no'.

I purchased my first A/P by phone, and have always renewed that way. You get your voucher in the mail, and redeem it at one of the parks. For me, just the hotel discounts are worth it. Well, that, the free parking and the ability to park hop like a mad fiend.

This is true and you must have the actuall AP in possession before you check in to get the discount. You can purchase a voucher at any of your local Disney Stores then go to DTD when you get there to get it validated. Then go check in.

Where at DTD do you have to do it?

I believe it is at the Disney store at DTD. I could be wrong. We are buying AP's next year for the first time so we have not actually gone through the process. I know at DL, there was special location inside the park to get them validated.

There is actually a special Guest Relations window for this If memory serves, I believe it was not too far away from the Ghiardelli Chocolate ice cream place. I Know it was definitely NOT in the Disney Store as I passed right by it on one of my last trips!!!It was on my way back out to the busses, not in the store at all. Belle

The only discount with the initial purchase of an AP that I know of was with the now defunct Disney Club.

Also I have never...I repeat NEVER had to actually show my AP when I checked in.

I currently have an AP, and my renewal comes up in about three months. I am thinking about upgrading to a PAP at that time. Does anyone know if I'll get the renewal rate for that one? Or the full price rate?

All you ever needed to know about Annual Passes but were afraid to ask!!! Actually this information is located on our friend Deb Wills' Website, WWW.allearsnet.com But the direct link for all this information is here:
http://allearsnet.com/pl/apass.htm
Hope this helps!! Belle

Belle,

Thanks for that link, it gave a lot of information and has raised some more questions too for you or anyone else who might know.

Two questions: It mentions dicounts on both National and Alamo rental car company. Has anyone used both of those and which was better? Also if I only have the voucher until I get to DTD will I get the discount on the rental car or will it not work as I won't actually have the AP yet?

Thanks,
Mike
