Annoying People in the Parks - Sept 2016 Edition

1) Why do people continue to take FLASH pictures of the castle with a cell phone from Main Street? Do people think the flash is actually doing anything other than annoying people around you? It's like 300 feet away.

2) Why do people continue to shoot terrible, shaky video from a cell phone in Indiana Jones, Festival of the Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, any fireworks, etc, etc? There are PRO shot videos on YouTube that look WAY better than your cell phone video will look and sound.

3) Why do people take pictures of fireworks? I mean, I can understand a few, but I see people doing it constantly, then posting it to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram like real time. They miss like the next 5 fireworks b/c they are bragging about being at Disney.

4) Why do parents let their kids eat and drink whatever they want at all times? I have never seen as many obese kids as I saw this last week. It is shocking. These kids weigh over 200 pounds and are under 12 years old. It's clear these kids get anything they want.

5) Why do parents not discipline their kids or make them have some manners? running around the restaurant, banging silverware for 10 minutes, and screaming constantly is not OK, even if you're having fun at Disney.

6) Why do people constantly complain, particularly about prices? I can't tell you how many times I heard people complaining. Stop going!!!! I would love for you to not be there.

7) Why do people walk 5 and 6 abreast in the park? Just because you have a family, doesn't mean you have to walk arm and arm throughout the park. The walkways aren't super wide and your slow stroll through the park is annoying.

8) Why do people ignore cast member direction? Fill in available space, go to your assigned number, keep up with the party in front of you, etc.

1). Science isn't a hugely popular major anymore...
2).Same can be said for Common Sense...
3).I can answer for myself. I have PTSD from experiences in Iraq. Fireworks and me don't mix well (or anything that goes boom, really). Taking pictures with my phone puts the focus on the screen, which makes it feel more disconnected, like through a TV. Plus, it makes me focus on the beautiful visual, as opposed to the sounds.
4).Can't disagree, it really is sad. Water is so much healthier and required...
5).We don't want to ruin their magical experience, do we?
6). This one always confuses me too. I knew from the second I paid $123 a night for a "value" resort, and $100 a day for park tickets, that the Mouse was taking my money. How do people expect TDO to pay 70,000 employees, and continue to maintain, expand, and improve parks and lodging?
7). I like this one too, as well as the one that always has to push in front... That person is real fun in the queue.
8). "Fill in all the way forward and as close to the doors as possible" no translatado mucho bueno... I think that's real...

Be honest- is this one really having a negative impact on your trip that much? Maybe if they hold it up over their heads, but if it's at eye level....

1. People don't know how to use their cell phones/cameras.
2. How else can you experience life through a camera lens and then tweet about it?
3. See number 2.
4. It's the fall of western civilization, one cheeto at a time.
5. See number 4.
6. Patient: Doctor, whenever I go to WDW my wallet hurts......
7. See number 4.
8. See number 4.

Conclusion: We are arrogant, self-centered, lane and cheeto hogs. Let's send them all to Catholic school for a paddling from Sister Mary Margaret.

Number 8 absolutely drove me nuts!! I just got back from my Honeymoon at WDW and Universal and oh my goodness, the ignoring of directions was constant. I'm sure there was a language barrier sometimes, but it was still extremely annoying. One I remember being so irritated at was on a river raft type ride at Universal and there were signs posted everywhere saying do not take off your shoes. Some of the people on our raft started taking theirs off anyways and a cast member came over and said no, put your shoes on or you can't ride. So they put them back on until they were out of view of the staff and then took them off again, not even caring that we were staring at them in disbelief.

Oh man, it might be in the top 2-3. They are always doing it in FOTLK and it's right at eye level. I had one doing it this last time and made sure I saw the show again because it impacted my experienced the first time. Since it's allowed, I couldn't really say anything, but he was constantly holding up is phone (vertically of course) to take his terrible video on his Samsung Galaxy S2.

You're probably the rare case on number 3. I think most people are just trying to get a picture to brag on social media or are just annoying in general.

I think the problems you list (which are, I agree, totally annoying!!!) are attributable to two things:
1 - People are so full of entitlement that they don't bother to exhibit class, manners and basic courtesy -- they are so desperate to have (or not even to have, but to record so they can post to social media) the most amazing possible vacation, that they put their own desires ahead of everyone else. ("Who cares if all anyone else can see at this darkride/show/fireworks is my screen? If I don't get this on Facebook, it will be like it never happened!")

(Or to state it differently, "they think they own whatever land they land on, that Disney's just some purchase they can claim, they don't care that each other guest around them, has a life, has a spirit, has a name...")

2 - So many people are ill-equipped to enjoy their Disney vacation (due to lack of planning, lack of budgeting, lack of sleep, inflated expectations, personal inability to relax, or engaging in the futile attempt to try and "do it all") that it brings out the absolute worst in them, and they engage in behaviors they'd be ashamed to repeat at home. One reason we always make sure to stay well-informed, well-rested, well-fed and refreshed throughout our vacation is because that leaves us in the best possible position to confront the unexpected little hiccups that will happen (like the rude guests we'll see here and there), with a smile and a positive attitude.

I'd like to add to this a bit -

My wife is on crutches full time (lost her right leg 10+ years ago to cancer). I either walk in front of her to clear a path or walk behind her to make sure her path is unobstructed. We were at MK and AK Labor Day weekend - the # of people who cut in front of her, cut her off or refused to get out of her way was UNBELIEVABLE. While we were in line for POTC, a 10 yr old boy behind us kept trying to use his dad's cell phone camera to take pictures up her shorts pantleg.....in obvious view of the father. When I turned around and caught him the father said "he's just curious". My wife was mortified and embarrassed - I plainly told him "if you cannot control your son, perhaps the security people need to be informed that your son is a deviant". His wife was horrified and apologetic.

That is just unacceptable. I would've slapped the father...

I don't know. While some of these are valid criticisms, 2 & 3 (and 1, if I'm being honest) seem more like, "This person is vacationing in a way that's different than me! I'll bet they wear garishly colored Bermuda shorts with no thought to how other guests feel about it!"
Your attire is your choice (although some of the people wearing their "summer" stay cool items can be questionable).

The constant picture taking is annoying when they are holding phones above their heads, flashing, and glowing screens during dark shows/attractions.

What really get me on #4 is parents who are so dead set to get their kids " healthy beverages" and they will order pizza with milk or apple juice to drink or the worst I saw was shrimp at CHH and the mom ordered milk with seafood? Think about the gross combos, why can't they just get some water ?
