Stemming from a bet I have with a friend I wanted to discuss the animatronics in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. I know we have some experts here on the various types of animatronics (and even whether certain things should count). Below is the list I've compiled and would love people to fill in additional information.

1Millennium Falcon: Smugglers RunR5-P8Hondo's droid, near him in the queue/pre-show

UnknownSnail-esque creature

Not sure if I missed any, and would also appreciate any insight people have on Rise of the Resistance. We've heard numbers as high as 150 AAs in that attraction.

There's a baby Sarlacc (in Dok-Ondar's I think)

I believe Dok-Ondar is quite advanced, at least he looks it.

I think the droids outside have some movement? Unsure.

ROTR has AA's but unsure how many yet.

There is one frog at the creature stall and also one in the Cantina.
2 in the Cantina, I believe. One on each side of the bar.

Since you seem to considering anything that physically moves, the engines of the Pod racer (?) move up and down occasionally.
Seen here:

Also, orange R unit twists his head outside of Droid Depot.

I had the pod racer engine on there as well. I guess I'm asking for clarification as to whether or not that should be considered an AA. I know there are some technicalities in there where some of the Jungle Cruise figures (maybe the hippos) aren't technically AA's?

That orange unit outside Droid Depot, is that an R5 unit?

Typically Audio Animatronics - which is, itself, an outdated term, since Animatronics haven't run on Audio for eons - denote a figure that conjures some sort of character or creature. Droids would apply, but I'm not sure a Pod Racer Engine would fit that bill. That's more Automated Scenery - you wouldn't call the old Shaking Boulders on Big Thunder Animatronics.

Other than that one, this list seems solid. And yes, word about town is that ROTR should cause it to multiply many times over.

The term gets muddier as time goes on. As yensidtlaw1969 mentions the original term meant an animatronic whose control signal was analog audio, much like a fax machine. This was confusing even in the World of Color demonstrations, as most of the animatronics controlled by audio ALSO produced audio (or were synchronized with nearby audio) to appear to move and talk. SO most people assumed the term AA meant a robot that moved and talked. Fast forward to now where none of these are controlled by audio data, and only SOME of them both move and vocalize and you have a mess where even the disney-produced promos refer to anything that moves and makes noise as an AA.

Rise of the Resistance AA's
  • 2 BB-8 Animatronics in Pre-Show 1 (1 in each room)
  • 1 BB-8 AA at the top of Poe's X-Wing
  • 3 Lieutenant Bek AAs (1 in each shuttle room)
  • 3 Nien Nunb AAs (1 in each shuttle room)
  • 50 Stormtroopers (It's hard to tell but it looks like 3 rows of 14 in front of the window, 4 additional on the left, 2 on the right, and then 2 more on the walk to the detention cells)
  • 1 R5 unit on the troop transport vehicle in the hangar room
  • 38 R5 units (1 on each ride vehicle)
  • 1 Probe droid
  • 1 Kylo Ren animatronic (on the bridge)
  • 1 General Hux animatronic (on the bridge with Kylo)
  • 2 Finn animatronics (one visible on each side)
  • 2 Storm trooper arm animatronics (one visible on each side)
  • 1 Kylo Ren animatronic (star destroyer falling apart)
  • 1 Lieutenant Bek AA (final escape pod)

Any word as to whether or not some of these figures were recycled from other attractions?

What is that guy from the "It's a Trap!" people in ROTR? Looking at the ride video, at first I thought he was a screen, then I thought, "oh that poor worker. All that gear." then I realized he was an automatronic. I might have to visit the park, after all, just to get a load of him.
I'm not the Disney Brightest Bulb.

That’s Bek, otherwise known as the best looking animatronics of the attraction.
