Animal Kingdom's Expedition Everest & Motion Sickness

The Teacups, or Dumbo would give me motion sickness within moments.
Last May, my sons and I rode Everest 4 times in a row - literally got off, walked through the cue and got back on in as short a time as it takes to walk the cue - 4 times in a row.
No motion sickness.

I have discovered and bought some travel/motion sickness pills for my upcoming trip so hopefully I will be fine this time and I would recommend you also invest in some :)
Just remember to only take one pill and not the two that is more than likely stated in the directions. Take two and you'll probably just spend the day asleep.

My DH and I have ridden EE more than 15 times; however, on the last two rides I had the awful feeling that I was about to pass out when doing the backwards/dark part of the ride. I love RnRC, ToT, BTMRR, but EE is now giving me this uneasy sensation. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? I do not get nauseous just a feeling of near black-out. I hate the idea of having to forego this attraction.

The only time EE ever bothered me was when I rode it three times in a row - I was a tad dizzy, but not nauseous. The backwards in the dark portion may bother your girl...I know it does my daughter..

Hey guys, my girl has motion sickness and I wanted to know...Does Everest have any loop to loops, goes upside down, and corkscrews? I'm going to go on the ride cause I LOVE thrill rides & roller coasters and she would want to try it out also but only if there isn't any point where she's upside down mainly. LOL. Keep in mind, going backwards & the speed wouldn't be too much of a problem, according to what she told me.

Nothing upside down, but you do go backwards in total darkness and then have the really steep drop as seen from the outside.

My parents (grant it, they were ~57 last time) were pretty much done for the day after going on it, and they used to like it. They also didn't go on bigger coasters much in the few years leading up to that.

Do loops and corkscrews on roller coasters typically trigger people's motion sickness? They may look twisty, but the force on those manuevers is very consistent and typically downwards, into the back of the restraint.

The only times I've felt any degree of motion sickness on a coaster has been during undulating bunny hills, like you usually find at the end of out-and-back style wooden coasters.

I've never felt sick after a ride and can ride coasters all day. Love them to bits and have done Everest about 5 times consecutively last time I was there through single rider line with no wait, I'm surprised so many have a problem with it?

Only thing that has ever made me feel nauseous was part of Chances House at HHN last year. It was when you walked through a rotating tunnel which made you feel like you were tilting to one side. I had to close my eyes to stop the optical effect affecting me, otherwise I would have felt like heaving :hungover:

It is the backward spiral in the dark that gets to people I think. I can do loops,, drops, barrel rolls, corkscrews and such. But I few years ago the backwards part really got to me. Have not ridden it since.

I can't do any motion simulator ride without nausea, and roller coasters just terrify me. I finally went on Everest a few years ago, and I lived! My ds had to pry my fingers from the bar to get out, I had absolutely no saliva left in my mouth, and my voice was hoarse from screaming, but what fun! I immediately went on it again - yes, round two. This time I had the first 3 side effects plus a ghostly pallor, the inability to blink, or to walk in a straight line, but I lived again! My fam thought I might be in shock, so they plied me with water. We went about the rest of a lovely day in Animal Kingdom. Another day back I rode it again - side effects slightly less, and have found my limit is twice in a row, then done. Love that ride. My sons won't let me ride RnR, I would probably be ruined for the day (loops and such). Rode Space Mountain once, too bumpy for me, but fun. I love Test Track and Thunder Mountain a lot. Anything that spins makes me sick. I always bring crystallised ginger to chew, sugar free mints, and ginger tea to add to hot water if needed. In case of super nausea, my ds gets it from his meds, his doc tells him to take Benedryl (yep, works amazing for nausea!) but that is only if it has already begun, as it can make some people drowsy. Good Luck!

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but she could watch videos of the ride on Youtube and she would be able to see if the ride had any portions that might bother her. That will give her some idea of what the ride is like and when she gets to the park, she can see the speed first hand and then can determine if she could ride. I suffer from motion sickness and vertigo so I'm not able to ride any coaster now. Seven Dwarfs was almost too intense for me LOL. But Youtube does give a good idea of what a ride is like.
