OK. The rooms are somewhat similar to the Polynesian, but have African themed batik bedspreads and drapes instead of Polynesian. We stayed in (and will be staying in...48 hours!) a Savannah overlook with bunkbeds, so didn't find it too crowded. The animals were about 50 yards (sorry) from our balcony at times...there was a feeding station for the giraffes right outside our room. We also saw vultures, deer, kudus, and antelpe every day. You can see other animals from other resort areas...it is set up with many scenic overlooks, and lots of knowledgeble guides. We saw the most animals at dawn, then again late afternoon. When we checked in, we had to sign a waiver stating that we were aware of surveillance cameras aimed at all balconies (keep drapes drawn after dark) and that anyone throwing or dropping anything off the balcony, or anyplace else on the grounds, would be immediately escorted from the hotel...no refunds, no returns in the future.

Yes, there is a food court. I brought cereal, milk etc and rented a refrig...ate most meals elsewhere, since I have a picky eater. You can get standard US type food, and also more exotic fare. The prices are typical for any WDW resort.

I haven't stayed at the AKL, but I went over this summer to check it out.

Only thing I came out of there with was it was so damn hot. It might just be me, but I think the AK section of WDW attracts more heat than any other section of WDW.

It's a nice resort, arcade is ok, I didn't like the food court because it was too fancy for a snack bar. Pool is rather large.

I'm planning on a couple of nights at the AKL next time.

I stayed in the AKL last October, and it was wonderful.

You must do Boma for breakfast. It was great food and a very good experiance.

Waking up to see the animal every day was a great experiance too. And if you stay up late, you can see them during the night feeding a s well.

I've stayed at a few other on site resorts (Contemerary, Poly), and AKL is by far the best time I've every had at WDW.

I'm ever thinking of doing a long weekend soon just to enoy the Lodge a bit more. One week was just not enough. I know my wife didn't want to leave.

I don't think we'll ever stay at any other resort excep AKL from now on.

Not unless they make one better than AKL.

When we went back to the Poly while we there last to visit it (we had stayed at the Poly for our honeymoon). And even though it's a very nice resort, I didn't "feel the magic" there like the AKL has now. Some of it was little things like real fire torches, and now they just are lights instead. Couldn't put my finger on it. It was just missing something it had 5 years ago, but lost.

AKL has it now. I think the animals are the biggest reason (and it helps that we love animals too), but we had no problem just enjoying the resort and not feeling the rush to see the parks. That was a first for me, and I'm a seasoned WDW visitor.

While I've always loved the resorts, it was mostly just a nice place to stay. AKL has changed that outlook for me. This is the first place I'd go now just for the resort.

I don't think I'm the first to say this, I've read quite a few reviews of AKL and some have said the same, that they would stay no where else now. It really is a magical, wonderful resort. This is Disney at its best.

Yes, there is at least one area for each savannah. The main savannah has a larger area than the others. There are also viewing areas from the hallways within the resort, and even around the pool area.

Most places also have distance viewers set up to use as well, and there are always CM around to answer questions.

Your room only would look out onto 1 of the 3 savannahs (except for some of the suites). So you'll need to go to these places if you wish to see all of the animals. No all kinds are in each area.

I think I read somewhere that there are only 70 non-savannah rooms available, all others have a view.

Spend the extra on the view. It's worth it.
