Animal Kingdom Lodge Room Location

I totally get it. Convenience is key to me too. It's one of the main reasons I've never stayed at AKL, or any of the large sized resorts. Hopefully you get some good advice.

We do get it, and there's plenty of tried and true expert advice here. The way you wish to take it or leave it is up to the individual, and if one chooses the latter, then don't come back complaining later.

Lol, what? Animal Kingdom Lodge is one large building. That's MUCH more convenient than the multi-building resorts.

In terms of distance to lobby and pool, it's probably the smallest Disney resort along with the Wilderness Lodge.

Well, you originally asked and I told you where you need to be for that as well as also giving some additional tips.
I've never heard of someone that doesn't care what their view is that's never been there. Believe me, at this resort you will end up caring at some point what your view is like; this isn't the Holiday Inn in the middle of nowhere USA.

Having stayed at Wilderness Lodge multiple times, and having a view of a portion of the roof and the loading dock and not minding at all...i can assure you i won't be disappointed at all with whatever view i have with a pool view room.

i don't want this to start going in a bad direction. I simply wanted some advice/info on whether or not i should be worried about noise level from the pool or restaurants if i had a lower level pool view room. I have gotten different points of view that i will certainly take into consideration and i appreciate the time you took to give it. Whether or not the AKL is big or small, i guess ill find out in a couple months. All i know is i've done plenty of research and heard plenty of complaints about the long walk from one end of either of the two wings to the lobby/busses etc. Now maybe they are exaggerations, but maybe not. To me, with a fairly large group and multiple young kids and strollers, whatever views that have any chance of me ending up at those ends is simply not worth it. Maybe I'm paying a bit more for a pointless pool view, but it'll assure me a building closer to the lobby, thats what i want. Again i do thank you guys for your help. I'm going to look into requesting an upper level room as apposed to ground or lower level for noise reasons.

Honestly, you're wasting your money on a pool view even of you don't care about seeing the animals. Get the $200 back and switch to standard view. Pool view isnt doing you any favors when it comes to distance from the lobby and it's hurting you in terms of noise level, even on a higher floor. Standard view with requests for "close to elevator" and "close to transportation" will meet your needs best. You're 100% wrong when you say that pool view will "ensure you closer access to the lobby." There are many standard and savanna rooms that are much closer to the lobby OR much closer to the elevators, which is really what's most important since you'll be frequently visiting the first and third floors for various things.

With all due respect, you started the thread asking for advice and then kind of argued with anyone who offered it.

I don't know if this is a check in option, but touringplans says to stay away from 'giraffe trail', and that floors 3 and 4 are most convenient to the lobby/restaurants. They also talk a lot about the views, so I'm not sure if that's heavily influenced when saying to "stay away".

That's good news. From what I've seen (photos only) and heard-it is larger/longer walks than Poly or the Contemporary tower. I'd love if it was comparable, either way I know that I'll have a great time there. We aren't doing any parks, so will just be taking advantage of resort activities.

I didn't see any option to "stay away" from any specific location. It was mentioned earlier in this thread that floors 3 and 4 were the most convenient. I would have never guessed that since I didn't know that the lobby is not on the "ground level". This is good stuff to know haha

Can you choose a "trail"? Zebra maybe? (That's what my TA is noting on my reservation) , but I think choosing the Pool View should automatically put you there or in 'giraffe', both look more convenient than the other side of the building.

It doesn't appear that AKL has a dedicated website or Facebook page like Poly does. Maybe someone who's a regular could start one..I know that the Poly info has been so valuable over the years, especially after dvc was added.
Here's all I've been able to find--

I would still notate on your reservation the exact floor/trail/distance you want, even if it isn't one of the new "options". You can call and have someone manually add it.

I'm not sure if maybe what's available to choose from varies depending on time of year etc, but the only trail view that is selectable for me is Kudu. So according to that, least desirable is Giraffe.....hmmmm

I must have been editing my comment the same time you wrote this. I added a sentence to the end. Just call and have them notate the floors/floors you want, "trail", close to lobby on the reservation.

Paging @epcotisbest ... Weigh in please!

Be aware that if you call, it isn't going to get you anywhere bc you are calling a call center in Tampa etc. Also, be aware that the preference thing they send you for requests is NOT a guarantee.

I think that people have been trying to give you solid advice, but you probably need to be looking at a map of Jambo House to appreciate their advice. I've stayed there numerous times and even though the last stay we were in one of the farthest rooms from the lobby, it really isn't far. Many people, when they talk about the long hallways only say AKL when in fact they specifically mean Kidani, which has a very different layout than Jambo house (when you look at a map of the two, you'll see that the farthest room in Jambo House is much closer to the lobby than the same location in Kidani). Again, looking at the map, because you have chosen a pool view room you have really restricted yourself and you have almost "guaranteed" that your requests cannot be honored - because you also want adjoining/connecting rooms with your family, near an elevator, and near the lobby. The pool of rooms that might satisfy those conditions would be quite small (and may not be vacant on your check-in date). Because you are paying for a pool view room, they will not be able to put you in several of the standard view rooms which are just off the lobby (on our first stay we had a standard view room which was the second or third room from the lobby). In addition, the closest elevator to the lobby and to the pools is also the elevator that brings you down to Jiko, Boma, the Mara and the pool - which means it is always packed. As far as the other elevators are concerned, I don't think we've ever "shared" them with anyone else - even when going down/up from the pool level. For what it's worth, having just looked at the map, the only rooms that could satisfy all your requests would be the rooms on the Giraffe trail, which really would be the worst wing to be in, as there would be zero chance on seeing any animals walking to/from your room. Google map of Jambo House and you'll see what I have been explaining. I hope you have a great time - it's our absolute favorite place to stay!

Remember that when doing these "requests", that you could get everything, something or nothing of what you want. It all depends on when the trip is and how booked they are during those dates. Calling/faxing requests is basically wasting time and/or money, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead and do it.... just don't be surprised or upset when they tell you that they don't accept those kinds of things. As noted earlier in the thread, if you call Disney to make those requests, you're talking to a call center somewhere... not the resort staff themselves.

As for the views? You may not care, but what about the rest of the people in your party? They might care...

It seems you are worrying about too much. Going to the park, you're going to be walking countless miles and with little ones, I'm guessing they'll be in strollers? so what's a few extra feet going to hurt at the end of the day.

Again, just be aware that you're not the only one making selections for requests and nothing is guaranteed. You'll be placed where you are and maybe something you request will happen.

hopefully someone can help you with your selection...dont take my not caring about viewing the animals the wrong way, I'm sure its amazing. Its just for my group specifically with 3 very young children (and all the extra baggage to carry etc) the last thing i want is to have to walk a mile to get to my room after a long day at the park. Good luck with deciding on your room request!!
I know you've been bombarded with a bunch of now pushy suggestions, but no one has mentioned that considering you have a bunch of kids with you, I guarantee they'd prefer being able to watch animals from your window. If I ever had a hotel where I could watch lions from my window as a kid it would have blown my freaking mind.

He started the thread, got a bunch of people telling him what wasn't helpful to them, he told them as much, and then had to repeatedly say "no, I don't really want to do that" when everyone was insisting he do their plan instead of his.

He has the information. It's up to him to do the calculations. If it blows up in his face, that's the OP's problem and lost money at this point.

Also this.

Which would be great if they had lions there, which they don't and is a good thing for the other animals they do have there. ;)

Also, I don't see anyone here being pushy and we were helping him, now if he takes that advice is on him.
