Animal Kingdom Lodge-Is it too far or worth it?

We are going to WDW in late September and planning on staying at the AKL. I have heard some great things, but I have also heard that it is very far from everything and the bus rides can get crazy?! We reserved a savannah view room, is there any one area in the hotel with better views (upstairs, downstairs), but not too far a hike from everywhere else in the hotel? Help!

Also - Last time we visited we got the DDP and Loved it!! Any suggestions for some great restaurants as we will be getting it again this year!

Thanks for the help!!

My wife and I stayed at AKL on our honeymoon and instantly fell in love with it and I am absolutely positive(ok...99% positive)that you will fall in love with it as well. Everytime we go back to Disney World, whether we stay at AKL or not,we just have to go back and walk around the lodge and eat at Boma. The only time we really noticed a longer bus ride than usual was when we were going from the lodge to MK,other than that the distance is really not a problem at all. Our only bad experience at AKL was when we ate at Jiko and had the rudest, snobbiest waiter I have ever encountered on Disney property(actually, the ONLY rude, snobby waiter we have encountered on Disney property). He obviously picked up on my southern accent(and my ignorance as I asked for a straw and questioned why there is no sweet tea on Disney property)and treated us like idiots the rest of the meal. I also wasn't a big fan of the food at Jiko but apparently I am the only person who isn't,my wife loved it and is trying to get me to go back:hurl: . I love Boma though,so please don't lynch me! Seriously though,AKL is amazing and you won't regret a single minute of it. I hope you have a great trip,be sure to post a report when you get back!
