Animal Kingdom Lodge Advice

I need some help with booking my room at Animal Kingdom Lodge. I have been to Disney before but will be a first timer to AKL. We are planning on a standard savanna room but which savanna do you recommend staying on. From my research I thought the Sunset would be the best because it seemed to have the most animals & a good variety, but then I have also heard being on the inside of the “horseshoe” is better because of that view.

I have also just recently learned that in January when our trip is scheduled for (8-17) that the animals on the Sunset Savanna may not be there because they will be introducing them to the new savanna for the DVC addition. That would affect the last 2 days of our 9 day trip. I have heard Disney may do something with the rates if you are staying on that savanna during this situation, but nothing for sure has been announced that I know of. It will probably be something talked about closer to that time if they accommodate the situation. I don’t know if because of this it isn’t worth it to bother with the Sunset savanna and just pick another one or still go for if it’s the best savanna.

I have also heard that staying on the 3rd or 4th floor is the best view & with the DVC there the highest level we could get is the 4th floor anyway. So any advice is greatly appreciated so that I can make this a great trip for the first timers coming along with me this time around the Disney block.

Thanks!

I can't remember the name of it but we stayed in a the Savannah view room looking out onto the horseshoe and we thought it was great. I don't think it matters what floor your on you can see them all. We were on the floor off the main lobby and we say tons of animals. The only caution I give, is that we had a room way down towards the end of the horseshoe, and let me tell you that was a walk and a half.

We were on the Sunset side and saw animals every night. I can't remember the exact floor, but I don't know that it would have mattered - they were so close! Fantastic resort...be sure to have dinner at Jiko!

we were in a savanah view room facing the central savanah that the rooms wrap around..on the 2nd floor and the view was brilliant..when we first arrived we could see zebras in the distance and before we knew it girafes were walking past our balcony...i think if you were in a higher floor room you might be looking down onto the trees, at least this floor enabled us to see across the whole savanah...i took this video of our room..hope it helps you.

I would avoid the Sunset savanna since you'll have a direct view of the construction of Kidani Village.

I like Arusha savanna the best.

Regarding rate adjustments... Nothing has been officially announced (that I know of) for people staying on cash reservations in a "proper" hotel room during the period in which animals are not on display, but DVC members have been told that anyone of their members affected by a lack of animals will receive a "refund" of the points difference between a savanna view and a standard view. So it would stand to reaason that cash reservations would have a similar policy.

I'm planning a trip and staying at AKL as well. We really wanted to stay at AKL after visiting the resort last year but feel like a savannah view may be out of our budget.

However, I'm wondering if there's any option between "standard rooms". Should I be requesting a certain type of "standard room"?

We have stayed at AKL many times, We loved the AKL, be sure to get Zebra trail for your room stay, if they want to put you in sunset trail ABSOLUTELY refuse!!! It is a savanna smaller than my back yard and you see NO ANIMALS! You also have a lovely view of the cess pools. They should be ashamed to even call that Savanna view! But I digress.....
We were in Zebra trail and it was outstanding! We had Giraffes (although its called Zebra trail) outside our balcony all day long and then at night, we had views of the fireworks, SUPERB!
Because of all the construction we are now calling the Polynesian our new Disney home, they also took away our 5th floor at the AKL, which is another thing I always requested so Im a bit peeved about that... (can you tell? LOL)

We stayed in room 3321 (I think) which faced the entral savannah and had a wonderful view. We didn't get many animals coming really close to the balcony but that didn't spoil anything.

Now with me being a new member to the site, if I could only figure out how to get my profile photo to show up on my posts I would be happy! :brick:How do I get it to show up? It's inside my profile page, but doesn't show when I post anything.

There are two images connected with your profile... one is your "profile image"... the other is your "avatar"... your avatar is what shows up beside your posts. It's an option on your user control panel.... look under "settings and options" on the left hand side of your control panel. :)

There is also a "pool view" option, which isn't much more expensive than the standard room. My wife and I are going in September and the pool view room was only another 10 bucks a day!
