Animal Kingdom Lodge Activities

Hi all! We just added an additional 2 nights to our upcoming trip in May and decided to splurge and stay at AKL for those 2 nights before we head off to Pop Century. It is our first time staying at a Deluxe and want to enjoy it as much as we can while we are there (we won't even be going to the parks those days) and are looking for suggestions for things to do at the Lodge. I know they offer tours and other programs, but don't know the specifics. It will be me, DH, and two animal loving sons, ages 5 and 3. Any recommendations?? Thanks!!

AKL does offer a lot of activities throughout the day for the little ones. There's a schedule downstairs by on a bulliten board next to the restaurant bathrooms. One day when my friend and I were hotel hopping we decided to do one of the activities (African music). After each activity you get a bead to add onto a string of hemp that you can turn into a bracelet or a necklace. I turned mine into a necklace and I still have it. It's definitely worth the time.

I just stayed there for the first time a couple months ago after deciding to splurge and loved it! I know you're fall in love with the resort and not want to leave to go to Pop Century (which is also one of my favorite resorts!).

So, while you're there, I would definitely let your kids take advantage of the things they won't get to do at POP, such as the water slide. The whole pool area is gorgeous, so spend some time there.

There are small displays all over the resort of African artifacts. Kind of like tiny museum exhibits. But since you're at Disney, the kids won't realize they're learning, so take some time to just explore the entirety of the resort and see all the displays.

I think there are also storytelling sessions around a campfire in the evenings out on the main savannah overlook. I think they roast marshmallows too.

I'm sure there are more things, but those are all I can think of off the top of my head. Enjoy both resorts though. They're each wonderful. And take lots of pics for us to see!

Arusha Rock fire pit is where they have story telling at various times during the day. They also have CMs available on the Arusha Rock Savannah Overlook to answer any questions you have about the various animals you see. There are kids' activities at Simba's Clubhouse and even the resort store is wonderful to browse through. There's the Hakuna Matata playground as well. Lots to see and do.

Take advantage of the fact that you have a table service restaurant in your hotel and eat either Breakkie or Dinner at Boma.

And if you don't get a savannah view room, there are some lovely rocking chair lookout points. Just grab a drink and rock yourself into tranquility while staring at the animals! *sigh* What I wouldn't give to be there now...
