Angelica Meet and Greets have started (Video)

It's terrible, and rather insulting that they didn't hire a latina for the part.

Aladdin and Jasmine's friends are almost exclusively white or Hispanic, and many of them have to wear bronzer. Does it offend you that none of them are actually Arabian? And perhaps we should hire actual British people for characters like Alice and Mary Poppins. There are tons of Brits in merchandise and attractions. The fact is, character performers are initially chosen for certain parts because of facial features and how they look and move, even if their culture is not the same as the character's.

Besides, Angelica is from Spain, and Spaniards are considered caucasian, not latino. Latino generally refers to South and Central Americans, and Mexicans.

And anyways, Angelica's friend in the video is a very lovely girl, who I happen to be very fond of. I would never wish hate upon her, even if her accent does need work. She will get better, just as she did with the other character she is friends with.

I'm sure she's a nice girl and I certainly don't hate her.

But your point about other characters falls a little flat. This is more like casting an American for Mary Poppins if Disney was in London. Disney in China casting an American for Mulan, etc...

Doesn't make much sense considering the population and demographics.

I find that a little suprising, though I don't doubt it. Would Disney hire a white CM to play the part of Tiana in blackface? No way. Interesting that it's acceptable for white CMs to "bronze it up" to play the Middle Eastern characters.

But that does happen. WDW has a much larger British CM percentage than many people think, and they could have a quite a large pool to cast from. At one point last year, nearly half my coworkers hailed from the UK. And almost half the USA's Asian-American population lives in California, yet Silvermist at Disneyland is sometimes portrayed by a Hispanic girl. It's all about what you look like.

In their defense, all of them are tannish to begin with (in varying shades); the bronzer just deepens it. Only some of them use it, and it's actually usually the tanner ones who do. I've seen some very light Aladdins (light for Aladdin, not pale) and some very dark ones. (And in Disneyland and Disneyland Paris, where there's less of a black population than Florida, some of Tiana's friends are actually quite light. They don't wear anything to darken their skin tone, though.)

I watched the video before I saw the comments thought she was great.

She had great enthusiasm for the role and seemed to fit the character great. I wouldn't know the accent isnt great, I just see it as a Spanish accent.

Plus, if we want to be particular, if she were a real character then because she has spent so much of her time away from Spain on adventures around the world at various ports, her accent is probably altered slightly as accents do.

I like her. :)

Oh come on, this might actually be the ONE meet and greet I would actually line up for :ROFLOL: Give the woman a break. She's beautiful, she has great mannerisms, interaction and seems very into the role. I'd love to see interaction with Jack Sparrow.

I can see the picture of me, Angelica and...oh yeah almost forgot...my wife now! That'll be quite amusing :p

They couldn't find a real latina for that?

Horrible accent.

She sure isn't Penelope Cruz. The accent is not as bad as it could be, granted she isn't dead on Penelope either. She sort of sounds like my boss who is of Spanish and Cuban descent. She was born in Cuba, raised in Spain until high school, then the family moved to Puerto Rico. So, her accent is a little muddled, but at least she is a real hot latina. (Did I just say that? :zipit:)

Cool! Give her a break people....she is trying (and in training). Just give her some time.

........also :drevil:, i hate to continue this bandwagon, but is she is hot and the accent makes it better (either through a little off).

When you're friends with a character that hasn't yet made their debut, do you get to see their movie/TV show or whatever? I know that they have bio sheets about each character that tells you how they move and what they might say and so on, but it seems awful tough to get a feel for a character when you only see them for five seconds in a movie trailer. Not that I think this person is doing a bad job... I've only seen the character for five seconds in a movie trailer.

In most cases, if a movie hasn't been released yet they are able to see clips from the film but not the full film, they are given a synopsis of the story, and are given a character profile.

They do get to see the movie. I know of a couple new characters who saw their movie at least once before it was out in theaters. These movies are property of Disney, after all. I also remember Princess Tiana directly quoting her movie when I met her a week before it came out. ("You know I've got two left feet.") I didn't even realize it was a quote until I saw the movie a week later. :)
