My family and Mother n law are coming to WDW in May so the 6 people 3 adults 3 kids ages 9,7,5. We have planned and been to WDW 3 times as we planned out the trip with meals and places to see things to do. we have come to our last full day May 24 and have nothing planned, no parks to attend no meals. So given this opportunity what would you do?

my vote was to spend the day enjoying the extras of the resorts Spa, speed boats, Ice cream for Lunch at Beaches and cream.

We never give up a chance to be in the parks. We always like to do any extra time in either MK or EP. Since you have small children, I would pick MK.
I regret leaving so much each time, I simply don't want to leave the parks until the last minute. I can go to a spa at home or rent speed boats at the beach or have ice cream anytime.

That's what i would do. We have small kids and MK is our favorite park. You can also go back and do rides you missed.

I always try and leave an "open day" just in case something doesn't go as planned, or if there is a ride or show the kids really want to see again before we leave. Most of the time that leads us to MK.

I enjoy building in a day to not get up and get going but we do hit something later in the day. It's a good time to take in a parade, or ride something that you didn't get to do a some point in the trip. One of the things your kids might enjoy is taking the boat from the MK to Wilderness Lodge, it's a nice ride and getting to walk around the lodge is great also. The geyser goes off on the hour which is something the kids might enjoy.

We always do a *down day* at our resort mid stay. (pool, lunch at Captain Cooks, then later on at night, usually go to Epcot) A relaxing day is a terrific idea....unless you have purchased park tickets for the last day. If you haven't, a day at your resort, followed by watching either Wishes or Illuminations (if you're staying at a resort where you can watch them) then packing for the trip home (I hate that part LOL) sounds like a terrific plan.

If you bought a "package," one of the accompanying "freebies" is often a free game of mini golf at Fantasia Gardens or Winter Summerland. They are beautiful and lavishly themed (nothing like the mini-golf courses you'll see anywhere else), and well worth a visit. If I was having a "down day," I'd spend the morning lounging at the resort, have lunch, go mini-golfing, go back to the resort for a nap, enjoy dinner at the Hoop-de-Doo Revue (Fort Wilderness) or a restaurant along the monorail line, (if at Fort Wilderness, I'd follow dinner with watching the Electric Water Pageant from the beach or going to Chip 'n Dale's Campfire SIngalong.)

If I wasn't totally committed to "no parks" that day, then after that I'd head to the Magic Kingdom for Wishes. It's open until 12am on May 24 and much of the crowd will leave after Wishes at 10, so I'd stick around afterward and hit all of my favorite attractions with minimal crowds.

That being said, if I was going to leave a day entirely "unscheduled" as a "down day," I'd do it in the middle of your trip. By the end, people may be clamoring to visit their favorite park "one last time."

I always leave an "open" day at the end of the trip to go back and do whatever the kids missed or want to do again. So, it's not really "open" as in we won't do anything that day - it's just a freebie day to with whatever we please :)
