An odd question that needs answering

Hey guys, I have an odd querey

I am currently writing a fanfic about an Elvis tribute concert and I want to keep it somewhat believable.

I intend to write the story of the show taking place in front of Cindy's castle at WDW and and with our Elvis Tribute Artist leaving the park in a helicopter. Is there a place near Cindy's castle that could act as a makeshift "Helipad" and can the castle be illuminated in different colours?

thanks a bushel

Wow... that is an odd question.

Yes, the castle can be illuminated in different colors. It constantly changes colors every night after the Wishes fireworks show.

As for a helipad, I suppose the roof of cosmic rays could serve as a helipad. It seems big and flat. As a matter of fact, the new stage for Cinerellabration might be big enough. Haven't seen it in person yet.

By the way -- you do know that they had a bunch of Elvis impersonators on the castle stage when they launched Stitch's Great Escape, right?

Elvis Impersonators? Disney? Helicopters?
Brian, I have a feeling that you're writing the coolest story ever

(however the inclusion of the dreaded words "FanFic" gives me alot of pause, simply including Disneyworld doesn't really make it fan fiction)

I thought the area around WDW was a "no-fly" zone? Am I wrong? :veryconfu

Yes and no... As of May 11, 2003 planes must stay above 3,000 ft. The planes the flew the ads around the parks used to fly at 1,200 ft because any higher it would be to hard to read the banners. So with a good lens and you can still fly over the parks and get pictures and sightsee

What's inside protected zones The day before the start of the Iraq war, The Walt Disney Co. persuaded federal officials to close airspace above its theme parks permanently in Florida and California. The 24-hour no-fly zones -- which bar planes from flying below 3,000 feet in a 6-mile diameter -- are usually reserved for high-security areas such as submarine bases and chemical-and nuclear-weapon depots. Critics charge that rather than protecting the parks from terrorist attacks, the restriction is a way for Disney to keep out competitor's aerial advertising banners and noisy helicopters.
WALT DISNEY WORLD No-fly zone over Walt Disney World DISNEYLAND, CALIF. No-fly zone over Disneyland.

Since this is just a story it really doesn't matter.

If you look at this link http://www.disneypix.com/potw/Year3/120304.htm you can see a couple of grassy areas around the hub that could be used in a pinch for a makeshift "Helipad". Also there area right behind Cinderella Castle could be used for a small copter in a pinch depending on the diamater of the rotor.

Why not just have the helicopter hover over the castle and have Elvis hang onto a ladder and be pulled into the helicopter??

..I can just see his white sequined satin-y cape blowing behind him

Wow Robfasto! Thanks for the info! :)

The only reason I wondered was because the guy said he wanted his story to be believable.

Sometimes because of the noise I wish I lived in a no fly zone...
but I live on an airbase!

No problem...

Now that is a great line... ;)

The roof of the HM/IASW show building would definately be big enough, not sure how stable, though. There's also always backstage, and Cinderella Castle is near several utilidoor access points.

True, also the parking lots behind Main Street, although I would assume the point would be for it to be a very public send off. You could also use the grassy around where the 20,000 Leagues lagoon used to be.

Yep, this is definitely the way to go.

"Elvis has left the Kingdom."

This doesn't really have much to do with your question, but Elvis used to rent Disney World at night for his daughter :)

And, I think Disney IS a fly zone. I've seen planes, helicopters, jets, blimps and such fly over it...
