An Idea for Tommorrowland Speedway

I've been screaming for a long time to get rid of the cars and replace them with "Cars" stars like Lightning McQueen, Mator, Sally, etc. The kids would wait forever to get on them, and think how cheap it would be to replace them!

An attraction like that wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea, but it doesn't really belong in Tomorrowland.

I've stated before that I believe demolishing the speedway in favor of two new rides (one for Fantasyland, one for Tomorrowland) would be worth it.

Really the whole tomorrowland thing is done at least in Disneyverse. They gotta get EPCOT right so its a mute point for MK. Just create a new land already! Start fresh make it all toys/childhood memories or truly make it a splash of future...a carousel of progress for today not 1940, pay it forward...

Or turn Tomorrowland into a sci-fi area and use Future World for a "tomorrow that never was". I don't want Cars and Toy Story anywhere but Pixar Place.

I think that the solution for the speedway is simple. As many others have said, the themeing is a big problem, so just repaint the signs, cars, line, and pit area, add some neon lights/fiber optics along the line and track, all so that it matches the themeing and colors of the rest of TL. Maybe even add some sets and decoration along the track, but really, that isn't even needed. Small budget, so its not like anything is even stopping Disney from doing it

The problem isn't the speedway; it's the execution. The speedway as it is now is an incredibly loud and intrusive ride that doesn't really fit in with anything in MK. It doesn't fit in with today's Tomorrowland (It might not have even fit in with it in the '70s) and it certainly doesn't fit in with Storybook Circus and Fantasyland. Really, what the attraction needs is a complete overhaul. Make the cars electric. It would certainly make the ride quieter and more enjoyable for guests both on and off the ride. Drop the Indy Speedway theme. It doesn't fit with Tomorrowland, and, frankly, is a theme more akin to Six Flags than Disney World. Make the ride more futuristic. I don't mean with rocket cars and like like: I mean in terms of scenery. Perhaps make the cars a bit sleeker, but there is so much that could be done with the area. Even a small dark ride portion or speed tunnel could set the ride over the edge and make this tired ride an incredibly unique experience compared to its multi-coast counterparts. The ride doesn't need characters, nor does it need to become a new ride. It just needs improvements to bring it out of the 20th century.

How about magnetic cars that hover in the air like the bullet trains. Of course, there would have to be force fields around the cars so they don't bump into each other.

It would be awesome, but this would be extremely costly; pushing nine figures.

Best option is to raze it. Realistically, Disney wants a bigger princess presence at the parks. The Speedway borders Fantasyland and is a beefy parcel of land which is still inside the berm. Perfect real-estate for a Frozen attraction. Down the road, it's an easy Tomorrowland expansion pad (and I still think that in terms of balance, Tomorrowland is priority #1 for a Magic Kingdom expansion; complain about Adventureland/Frontierland expansions all you want, but Tomorrowland has only one E-Ticket to two for each of the western lands).

Modernization to electric cars and better scenery would be relatively cheap, but there is really no way to make the Speedway a great attraction. At best, it's a not terrible one, and so I say level it in favor of a Fantasyland/Tomorrowland expansion pad.

move it to HS and theme it to Cars. Put Mater's Junkyard jamboree next to it and Sally's restaurant. Boom. Then take that space in MK and use it for Frozen.

I know it blasphemus to say to take it out as a MK original but the ride needs to change and in the interest of time and current demands one of 2 things needs to happen either a modern up date future worlding the place as Fox and Hound is right, move it as the speedway to the new idea for CarsLand in DHS its still in Disney then... and then in place of speedway: Frozen could be adapted in the space. change it to stylized elk drawn wagons for the ride put in a snowy scene add the town and castle add a dark portion being the ice palace and for inside the ice palace with the cold and views for that and finish it off. simple and fun and a different sort of ride and the frozen story in that place between fantasy and where we hope tomorrow takes us:) of course MK does not really need the new ride it really needs to be in a park like DHS that needs the draw.

Or do up a hybrid track with Cars cars and Sugar Rush cars racing together. I love when an attraction pulls a disney "mash-up" a la the Ariel on PPF or PhilharMagic!

I think they should demolish it and put either a nice e ticket or a couple nice rides. It's dated
Yes, it's,dated, but it's still a ride for younger children. If it is updated or replaced, it needs to still appeal to the same age audience. I believe it's rides like this that keep MK as crowded as it is. The other three parks do not have enough rides for young children to encourage the parents to go anywhere but MK. Young children don't necessarily want E-rides. Put a few Dunno, Winnie the Pooh type rides in Epcot and DAY and it may thin out the crowds at MK at least a little bit.

I like this idea... except leave space for potential Tomorrowland expansion beyond the berm (1 or 2 attractions). And Adventureland is the one area of the park without some sort of thrill ride. Fire Mountain or Indy would be perfect.

I am not saying it should stay like it is, or even get a makeover. Probably should go away totally in my opinion.

I am reading "The Disneyland Story" off and on and the idea at least when Autopia was being created in Disneyland.

What would turn out to be one of the most popular rides in the park was the miniature highway know as Autopia. Freeways were new and futuristic to Americans in the 1950's. In Southern California, work had already started on a promised network of highways that were within 5 miles of every residence. Indeed, Disneyland's success would be dependent on access from a freeway.

Walt wanted young people to grow up to be responsible drivers , so he felt that a "training" freeway would be educational as well as fun.
Page 95

1) The view of highways in the 50's was much different by the time construction began in Florida. So I think its safe to assume the Tomorrowland Speedway was just an easy way out to fill space with a proven design.

2) Today, no one needs a training freeway any longer.

3) 'Nothing should be done to the area short of getting rid of the speedway totally. No more characters in attractions in Tomorrowland.

I don't know... Sugar Rush/Hero's Duty would be a great way to transition from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland. I could see an original E-ticket in the expansion pad behind Speedway, but Sugar Rush would just be a natural replacement.

And I do think the desire to remove characters from Tomorrowland is just in denial of the fact that Disney has plenty of non-Star Wars sci-fi IPs to make use of (Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, TRON, Meet the Robinsons, Hero's Duty from Wreck-it Ralph, Treasure Planet, WALL-E)... but they don't belong in Future World. And according to purists, neither Tomorrowland... despite the fact that it's unofficially science fiction themed. Tomorrow is always tough to keep up with. And it's just not feasible to update the area every 5 years when you have 4 theme parks and 2 water parks to look after. Not to mention those who think WDW needs a 5th gate despite all 4 theme parks needing some improvements while the 2 water parks could each use some sort of addition.

Discoveryland or Sci-Fi City is what should be done with Tomorrowland in MK, because Future World covers the future, initially.

In the age of Diagon Alley, Tomorrowland Speedway needs to be visually appealing and immersive. It goes a whopping 8 mph, so I want stuff to look at.... if you're not going to let me go 30-40 mph. No reason to have unthemed go-karts when I can do the same thing for cheaper and much faster at Fun Spot on I-Drive or Kissimmee. The cars smell terrible and don't mesh with Tomorrowland or Fantasyland at all. More importantly, it takes up a huge chunk of land and blocks the expansion pad between it and Space Mountain (rework the backstage space and build beyond the berm like Disneyland does.

Either actually theme Tomorrowland Speedway, or tear it down and open up the former plot and large area behind Speedway for a sizable expansion of Tomorrowland and an attraction that transitions between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.

I don't think they will get rid of it though because it is very popular with young kids.

Idk. Sounds nice, but does MK really need new attractions at this point? Also, the speedway offers a very unique ride experience
No maybe for it's 50th Birthday though. Personally I'll have a Speedway in HS themed to Sugar Rush not in between a Fantasy Kingdom or an Intergalactic Space Port, but it isn't unique enough I mean I can do it at the Youth Fair when it's in town.
