An idea for Pleasure Island

I'm not much of a poster, more of a lurker, but I had an idea that could work for both the adult looking for "adult fun" and Disney as a "money maker."

How about opening a casino where Pleasure Island now sits?

I know people say gambling doesn't fit the "Disney Image," but poker has made gambling mainstream. Almost every state in the USA has a casino (39, I think). And with ESPN as the TV provider for The World Series of Poker (which gets tremendous ratings), what better tie-in. Maybe make multiple casinos with different themes. An ESPN casino, Mickey's Poker Room, Donald Duck's Slot Parlor, etc.

I know that if I was in WDW, I'd be on my way to the casino as soon as my kids are asleep! And I'm sure many more adults would do the same.

It would also be a guaranteed cash cow for Disney. I often go to Atlantic City; and no matter how bad the economy is, the casinos are always packed with people willing to lose their money. Disney could compete somewhat with Vegas as a "family friendly" casino resort.

It may not be a perfect idea, and I'm sure Disney purists will hate it, but Disney has to keep up with the times. And right now, poker and casinos are drawing in the crowds.

Let the discussions begin...

Your ideas are intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I don't see Disney ever allowing any kind of gambling. Heck you can't even get lottery tickets on property. Don't get me wrong I love the idea of a casino on property... But I just don't see the mouse and gambling becoming friends..

I agree, not going to happen.

Please keep in mind, currently most casino style gambling is illegal in the state of Florida. Only Indian Tribes can offer gambling in the state other than bingo, greyhound and horse racing, and the state run Lotto.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and the Seminole Indian Tribe signed an expanded casino gambling compact last November that the Florida Supreme Court just recently declared unconstitutional.

Also note, as Disney Cruise Line is I believe the only international waters Cruise Line Company that does not offer ANY gambling on-board the chances of gambling coming to WDW is not likely.

Yeah, never, in a hundred, million years going to happen. They wouldn't even put a casino on Disney Cruise Line, nor are they putting them on the new ships. So what would make anyone thing they'd build a permanent one in a state that only allows casinos (begrudgingly on Indian land)?

Put in an H&M or American Apparel and license the Disney name to them so they can make stylish, cool clothes. Such Disney shirts not seen since the 1980s.

can you imagine the hipster's change from apathy to disgust when they hear their beloved American Apparel is teaming up with Disney?

Haven't you heard...Disney already has a BOLD NEW VISION for Pleasure Island...seems the masses are salivating, clamoring, demanding even...wait for it...more SHOPPING AND DINING.

WDW is known for unique family entertainment. Casinos are everywhere as are night clubs. To me it would be a travesty to add what has become fairly common everwhere and lose what makes WDW so unique. Same reason I won't miss the clubs at PI.

I like to gamble on occasion and of course go to WDW or any of the other theme parks around the world as much as I can, but I hate the idea of mixing the two. To me, Disney is all about family and gambling is very far from anything family.

I think that Disney will add more shopping and Dining but they will also add more item like Ferris Wheel, Arcades, Amusement park attractions for childrens at PI.

(Question: I known there a McDonald at PI, but how close is the nearest Burger King, Wendy, Arby and other fast food joints is to PI and how desperant are they to build a store near or at PI if Disney allow another fast food joint to build at PI?)

The need of more shopping I'm not totally on board with, but I do see the dining argument - while there's a lot of restaurants in DTD, there's not a ton of things that are really affordable. Earl, Pucks Express and McDonalds are the only ones that spring to mind, so hopefully they'll add some more affordable dining options.

Just wish it wasn't at the expense of the Adventurers Club and the Comedy Warehouse... :(

I think Disney and McD's have a bit of a contractual relationship that would make it extremely unlikely for any of the other 'Fast Food' giants to land a store front on Disney property.

While it is an interesting idea... I really don't think gambling will come to fruition. I think there is more of a chance of Disney opening its own nuclear power plant on property, thanit would of opening a gaming location.

OMG I laughed so hard that people at work are looking at me funny...
I can see it now...super V neck shirts with Grumpy on them!

Although it would be cute to see the hipster leg warmers and long socks with pink and white stripes and piglet
lol

This hipster would be delighted.

I know AA would be a stretch, but H&M prices are too cheap for Disney. I just really want to see stylish Disney clothes come back. My vintage EPCOT Center 3/4 sleeve t-shirt always gets positive remarks from people.

I think that disney should use the land for other things then opening new shops. Disney would never open a casino because its not family friendly, plus they would have done that on the ships that they run. Disney seems to be on a path of just copying things from other parks instead of make unique attrations, and over time this will start to hurt them:dazzle:

One reason why PI is closing is because Disney wants to get back to the area being used by the entire family. While I would love it, a casino would do just the opposite.
