Any truth to this???

"A few months ago I spoke about a rumor sent to me by one of my sources, and it’s time for an update, as we’ve now heard a bit more about the proposed plans to bring the Apple Store to Walt Disney World. Apparently, from what my source has been told from someone with ties to Apple, the plan is for an Apple Store to be the weenie for the shopping area of the Western Way development, much as the Virgin Megastore sits as the weenie in Downtown Disney.
The Apple store they plan to big will be one of their largest yet and will feature an auditorium style conference room where they could (in theory) hold press conferences with information on everything from new Apple products to new technology in use at Pixar.
My source’s source also suggested, though they were less sure of this part, that the store would feature a Pixar exhibit that would show off various techniques the artists at Pixar use, demo home video editing products from Apple such as Final Cut Pro that could help you make your own cartoons at home, and feature a movie theatre of sorts where they could show trailers for past and present Pixar works. Apparently the grand opening of the store would also be expected to feature a new iPod branded in some Disney fashion and featuring a series of Disney movies pre-loaded on it. If this is true, this may be the first of many large steps into a marriage on many levels between Apple and Disney."

I still really don't like the Western Way shopping center expansion idea.

There are tons of mega shopping centers around Orlando, and this shopping center sounds like it will be exactly like all of them.

Nice idea:
If Apple would built a store in Disney I would like to see them convert the DisneyQuest store because it about the same size as of the two store in Manhattan and they would then only needed to convert the exterior to all glass. Since Apple is considering a third store in Manhattan near Macy to be a all glass exterior design like the other two this must be what they want all of their stores to look like.

On Fifth ave in NY Apple store and World of Disney store is only two block from each other (Trump tower between them) had not done any cross promo as of yet. The World of Disney also shared floor space with the Coca-Cola New York Headquarter which have done more cross promotion than apple.

It would make sense since Steve Jobs of Apple is one of the largest if not the largest stockholder in Disney, now that Disney and Pixar have merged.

Ya know, Disney is hilarious. They think they need to keep expanding, while Downtown Disney is still not even close to being a complete experience. They should continue improving what they have, instead of developing new property all the time.

Especially since the Virgin Megastore is in its last days. Most locations have closed down, and that (in my opinion) would be a perfect location for Apple. They can bulldoze it and start fresh, but this whole Western Way idea is dumb.

Also, i think they should make a Walt Disney World version of El Capitan, where they could premiere certain things in Disney World and have more special events.

Disney, please don't bite off more then you can chew. Thanks.

Before my trip a few weeks ago I was in the same camp as you WeLComeHomE OKW but my thoughts have changed. Downtown Disney was PACKED every time we went even though the park crowds were moderate to slow. They need to alleviate some of that traffic to make it a better experience.

Yes, I know that it is packed. But, that does not make it a complete experience. It can be so much more then it is, but its all about net gain for them.

I understand that they need to alleviate some of the traffic...but there are always ways around these things. Look at Disneyland, Disney put all of their energy into finding ways to utilize the space they already have. Disneyland is jam packed with as much stuff as it can have, and they are STILL doing a million things to it. If Disney World had similar restraints, they would have to down the quantity and up the quality.

For instance, there has been much talk here recently about Pleasure Island changing. Now, if I were disney, I would get rid of the Pleasure Island that exists now, and make it a continuation of Downtown Disney. they would have tons more retail space, and be making tons more profit, while also allowing kids of all ages to enjoy it.

There are so many things that can be done, but won't be done. Disneyquest will continue to die, and pleasure island will keep getting creepier.

Downtown Disney had security problems until they got national attention. Disney is already biting off more then they can chew, and they need to slow down before they lose control.

It seems highly unlikely. No way from Apple's standpoint, at least. They definitely will always hold ALL of their new product, etc conferences in California. Orlando is and is becoming a lot of things, the next Silicon Valley is not one of them. A retail store is probable, but I doubt any of that Pixar stuff is true. Only time will tell, but I'm going to go ahead and say BS.

I think it's pretty likely, once you think about it.

With Steve Job's huge ego, you would think that they would open up a store would he would get the most attention (i.e the huge Apple store in NYC) and also throwing in there Apple and Disney's relationship.

Imagine what Disney could do with Pixar characters also...

There's a little Apple Store at the Mall at Millenia.

And one at the FL Mall. This would be the 3rd Apple Store in the Orlando area. As a Mac user, I'd be thrilled to have an Apple Store at Disney but how many people are going to buy Macs while on vacation? I could see them selling some iPods and iPod accessories, but computer systems and software?

It seems a bit weird, but hey, whatever.

I agree, but at the same time if the store is an attraction in itself it may draw in people that otherwise wouldn't bother to check out an Apple computer, generating a sale when they return home.

I can see some cool potential.

I, for one, would enjoy visiting an APPLE store while in DTD. The Western Way project, to me is a complete waste of time , money and space.

Honestly, I bet the Virgin Megastore is the only profitable store on the West Side. It may be dying in other locations, but I think it works well at DTD.

People think that the clubs at PI are suffering, but I think the West Side needs the most work. Most of the stores on the West Side are extremely lame and would never draw people in...

The Planet Hollywood Store - nobody likes Planet Hollywood. The DTD restaurant is one of the only locations left... and with good reason - the food sucks and the atmosphere is so over-the-top fake. Plus, its redundant - the actual restaurant itself has a gift shop right outside, so why do they need another one right around the corner?

Magnetron - an entire store with nothing but magnets... oooh ahh.

The magic store (I forgot the name) - a really cramped little store that only sells a small handful of pre-packed magic tricks... and you can't even browse them yourself, you have to watch the CMs do demonstrations.

The movie memorabilia store - a bunch of expensive stuff that nobody on vacation is going to buy, let alone afford.

The store next to the movie memorabilia store - It just sells various WDW souvenirs you can find all over property.

The cigar store - only sells cigars. 'nuff said.

I'm missing a few stores, but every time I visit DTD, all of these stores are suffering, and were bad ideas in the first place since their appeal is so extremely limited.

They could totally revamp the West Side by replacing these stores with ones that have a much greater appeal instead of creating an entire new project for them. And about the crowd distribution thing - I've never seen DTD so crowded that it was uncomfortable, even in peak seasons. However, I shouldn't be talking as if the Western Way project is a rumor. The plans are already set.

I have said pretty much the same thing about all of these stores at one time or another when I was there. They just don't seem to fit well anymore. Take for instance the guitar store they used to have, who is going to sink a lot of vacation dollars into something they would pretty much have to ship home? The store was really neat, but I am sure did not make a dime for it's owners.

I do like Magic Masters, its the one must do at DTD, besides WOD store in the marketplace, but a LLOONNGG walk from one side to the other with nothing in between to intrest me.

Today i was on DTD walking around and it was packed, and this was just 3 pm.
Even Magnetron was busy.

Now the rumor of the Apple Store on Disney is kinda old, and at some point was mention to be were Virgin is.

For what i read (long time ago so i could be off) is that was going to mix the experience of the store at the Grove in California, More like a flagship store. And on that rumor they even talk about having merchandise (tshirts, pens, and knick knacks)

Now just imagine a Apple Store with a Disney Imageneers twist!

The only thing they should be worrying about is the DTD parking situation... just keeps getting worse. Something has to be done.
