An Animal Kingdom EEMH

Animal Kingdom's a great park and all, but it's no secret that there's just not a ton to do there (comparitively). So I'm wondering- what is everyone's reaction to the Evening Extra Magic hours there? Do you find yourself spending the whole three hours there (assuming they go the full three hours)? Do you normally do a day and an EEMH there, or do you just pick or the other? I bet Animal Kingdom is cool-looking at night! I've never spent a full day there, and definitely haven't seen it at night.

We visited AK during the evening EMH. We went later in the evening around 5:00. This is what we learned
  • Make sure you get the flyer on evening EMH times when you get the wrist band. Our CM didn't offer us one and it was our first evening EMH, so we didn't know the flyer existed
  • The time boards only show regular times Tarzan or FoLK so we didn't attend the evening times and ended up only seeing Folk.
  • Safari ends at dusk and so does the the animal walking trails.
  • Only the Pizza place and McD's in Dino is open after regular park hours.
  • Many shops are closed.
We did stay the whole time and enjoyed it. It wasn't really crowded. I just wished I knew what I know now. I would have scheduled things different, like eat earlier, see tarzan and FoLK after regular hours and planned the walking trails better.

Animal Kingdom is fun in the evening and after dark only b/c it's so neat to explore. The mood lighting is some of the best in all the World. I'd go just to see how pretty at night, and ride Dinosaur and Primeval Whirl as many times as I could.

I have not experienced EMH at AK, but I have been at the park after dark during Christmastime, so that is why I can say it's really neat at night time.

It's a shame the park has to close so early generally. I thought zoos closed at dusk, and theme parks stayed open past dark. :lookaroun

The EEMH at AK is probably what I'm looking forward to the most this year. More than Soarin', more than the changes at The Land, and more than LMX. The reason is this will be the first chance I get to walk around the park at night. Night is probably my favorite time at the parks and I've never seen the AK at night. I'm sure the Tree of Life is as beautiful in person as it is in pictures.

BINGO!! It is beautiful as I haave always said. A benefit of Christmas travel and crowds is AK open till 8 or 9pm. And that was pre EMH.

I've done it a couple of times and it's well worth it. I think we got there around 3 or 4, did FotK and the Safari before the park closed, and the rest during the EMH (as the safari closes early).

If it's your first time, I wouldn't do it that way, but if you're only worried about getting on the rides, it's the way to go.

First of all, it wasn't very crowded at all- everything was walk on from the minute we got there. We went on Dinosaur and Kali a bunch of times.

And second, as others have said, the park is stunning at night. Kali in particular really takes on a new feel. Even though your food choices will be limited, it was well worth it!!

Wow I forgot about Kali being open. I guess I just had it in my mind that it would be closed. But I will definately try and get in that queue at about 9:55 :)

One our last trip towards the end of May we went to the Animal Kingdom from the Extra Magic Hours and it was great. We got to the park about 5 and headed straight for Kalimanjaro Safari where it was walk-on. After that we did the Pangani Forest Trail and took our time. Afterwards it was about 6:50 and we high tailed it the Jungle Trek which stopped letting guest in at 7 but was open as long as we wanted to walk through it.

On to Kali River Rapids which was also walk-on for 8 rides (1 for me, 8 for the kids). Walked over to Dinoland and hit all 3 rides as well as playing time for the midway games.

Heading towards the exit we took in it's tough to be a bug and wandered around some in the darkness which was great.... when we left we still had about 30 minutes left before closing but after the morning extra hours at the Studios it was time for bed.

Animal Kingdom at night is really great, one of the most peaceful parks you can go to after dark.

Everest should add enough guests for Disney management (or whoever) to extend the hours. I was at EEMH once, and the current construction looked SO COOL in the moonlight. Woot. However, I think that they could have done a better job with the lights at Dino-Rama. I live in a roughly rural area, and have been to quite a few county fairs (the kind with rides and midways). Although Dino-Rama is a good representation of this, I have never been to a fair that only has white lights. All the lights are usually different colors and flash. Just an idea.
