Amex Traveller Cheque Card

Hi,

I´m from Germany and they now promote the above mentioned card. I know that it is a debit card. It sounds interesting for me cause I can load it up from time to time to save money for my next WDW-vacation and get the actuel great change rate for the $

Do you have any experiences on this kind of cards at WDW?
Am I able to pay the remaining hotel rate at check-in with it?
Will this card work at the ABM´s ?

Any suggestions will be welcome

If it is a regular debit load card then yes - you can pay your hotel, restaurants and sourvineers with it! But just make sure you read all the fine print as there are sometimes strict guidlines - Also, you may want to consider a visa or mastercard upload option instead of the Amex - as there are places all over the US that don't accept Amex b/c of the high fees they charge... Visa and MC are pretty universal and are rarely if ever turned down! Hope this helps you out a little... Consider having someone you trust at your bank recommend a good card... at least you'll know a little more of what you're getting into!

My brother got the American Express Travelrers Card and he didnt like what he had to give. He had to give his ss# to activate it which is a little odd. Its called the travle funds card, I have the information card right here and here are some answers to the questions you asked. You can use it at any ATM that american express is accepterd. You can used the card to pay for hotels and car rentals, but you can not use it for reservations.

I would look to another form, travelers checks are the best. This AMEX gimmick is a real money maker for AMEX.

It will work at ATMs with fee charged on top of the ATM fee, IF the ATM accepts Amex.

Just a FYI, National will not accept a debit card for a rental, you must have a real credit card to rent, you may pay with a debit card at the end of the rental.
Alamo will accept a debit card for rental with proof of round trip transportation, some exclusions for some places. However they will NEVER accept a preloaded debit card for any rental at any time.
Amex is using that as a sales gimmick and it is false for many locations.

They will Gail ;) I've handed over my Citi Check Card before... you just get $350ish held from your checking account.

I don't want to argue - but I've worked for National and Gail is right - unless your "debit" card is actually a visa through your bank... You cannot book a rental car with a debit car - not National at least... Alamo policy's change frequently but Dollar and a few others are more flexible...

Hi,

thanks for our aswers. Here at Germany the Amexcard is the only card I could get in $. Compared with a "real" credit card it is cheaper cause the others charges 1,75% of each transaction made in $.
To use it at a ATM it is around 8$ when using here at Germany and I guess it is even more at USA.
To get Traveller Cheques you have to pay a fee of ca. 10$.

not gonna argue, but it was an unmarked Debit Mastercard... no "debit card" or "check card" written on it... one of the old Citibank Mastercard Check Cards. I handed it over by accident, instead of my Amex, and I still got a car.

Here's a way to have one transaction on your credit card, would be to charge everything in WDW on your room key for the time you are there and when they put the charge on your credit card at the end of the week it will only be one charge going to card for the total amount spent. This way you aren't getting hit with multiple transaction fees on your credit card, just one.

Also, with traveller's checks, if I'm not mistaken, you can go down to the front desk in the disney hotel's and they will cash them up to a certain amount and traveller's checks are pretty much accepted everywhere.

I stand corrected, now National does state on their confirmations that you may use a debit card for rentals with the proof of round trip transportation.
Just when you think you have all the rules down pat, they go and change them.

Limit is $200 per day cashing traveler's checks at the resorts, but they can be used just like cash at any food or merchandise location on property.
