American Idol outside viewing screen is going up

Maybe Disney realized that American Idol is a sinking ship and they are cuttting the budget. It always seemed like a waste to build this attraction.

I wouldn't bet its a sinking ship..this attraction will no doubt appeal to the masses in a very real way.

I just hope they don't really get live sound going on outside....video and sound of winners might be bad enough, but imagine large broadcasted prelims? This could get ugly.

I'm assuming that the poster meant that it looks nothing like this:

http://wdwmagic.com/americanidol.htm

but more like the ABC Theater

No, the OP clearly said that there was new artwork, and the new artwork looks nothing like the old artwork in your link. The OP is strongly insinuating that the design of the project has been changed/scrapped/cut back, thus suggesting that he/she is privvy to inside info that can't be backed up with evidence.

And the funny thing is that so many of you believe it.

Why does the OP think this? This entire thread lost me from the first post. The OP cites "new artwork" but I can't find any anywhere. I did find a picture of a square-ish frame that everyone is assuming is the screen but I am not sure. Hey OP can you offer some clarity please? :hammer:

There is lots and lots of artwork that does not make it online. The original poster may have seen something in person, and not online.

i have never seen this artwork online, and the new/different artwork looked more like the ABC theatre in its current state, complete with the ABC tower still intact.

So what you're saying is, you have seen new artwork in hard form, but it has not been disseminated online yet?

Do you have inside information that points to a scale back of the original design?

no inside information at all.

the old abc tower has now been painted blue to match the rest of the buidling, so i guess that's a sure sign to say it will still be there.

Alright, I think I'm clear now. Whereas originally we thought we'd be getting a new tower, it now appears we're not. Also, the black framing appears to point to a flatscreen, not the circular one in the artwork.

Sorry nanna, the wording of your original post threw me.

I'm disappointed about this. I thought the building actually looked pretty cool in the concept art. It would liven up the area. Now, I just don't know what they're thinking...:(

I agree. Though I am certainly NOT a fan of Idol, but it would have been a newer attraction than what was and may have entertained a portion of the masses holding fast passes to Midway Mania.

That said, I'll place a minor bet that Disney is just realizing what many have posted here since this idea was announced. The thought that it's almost too late for this attraction. Idol simply doesn't hold the ratings/interest it once did and it doesn't appeal to the entire family (age-wise). :hammer:

My thought is they're trimming back on any investment there with the intent of pumping cash into Pixar, Star Wars, and updates to the existing. I'm sure as this project rolled forward, a few of the execs (<cough>, <cough>, Lasseter, <cough>) witnessed the interest many of us had in Midway and realized that an "Idol" experience is a lame duck as it's a limited audience and is going the way of Gertie.

Gertie is still there in Echo Lake!
