American Express Question

I was flipping through my friends Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2003 since i'm going in February. And i was looking through the section about money, and it mentioned that i had to sign a letter with American Express to use my card at Disney world. Has anyone heard of such a thing?? I just searched the web and the American Express website to see if i could find some information but found nothing. Any help would be super if you have any before i try calling Amex.

I have never heard of that, and as far as I know you do not have to. Our friends used their AMEX card there with no problems, I think the book may be wrong on this.

I don't believe that is true either. In fact when you stay at a WDW resort and show your key and pay with amex at certain places you get a 10% discount and at the hotel itself we got pins from Amex.

:) I always use my AMEX-- with abandon also-- Ha Ha LOL You do get a 10% discount on several things. You can check with AMEX when you get there. (Hoop dee doo review, some stores and Rainforest are some) I think they have a phone number with the information you find in the hotel room, if I remember correctly. :veryconfu

Also, they are now giving you a free lanyard with a pin on it instead of the pack they used to give when you pay for your room with your Amex. I think it was a limit of two per party. Not sure though. Think it depends on the person who checks you in.

Have fun!! :D

Amex "was" the preferred credit card at WDW. The "white glove treatment" runs out at the end of 2002. So, if you are going anytime in 2003, don't expect any special treatment if you use Amex. The new preferred credit option is the Bank One Visa Disney Card. Time will tell on this deal. It could work out.

This can't be true. I just applied for an Amex card so I could get the 10% discount. But we don't go until Feb 2003. If we pay before than do we still get all the goodies and the 10%???

Hey darkpenguin19,

You don't have to do anything special to use your AmEx card - I've used mine for the last dozen trips or so. And thanks for reading the Guide.

Sincerely,

Len

I have just officially been told by disney that the whit glove treatment from Amex will be discontinued as of 12-31-02. It only applied to some restraunts and sovineirs not to accomodations. Oh well maybe I'll find some other discount:veryconfu

Thanks

Thanks for all the help. I'm looking forward to the trip in February, will be getting engaged while i'm there... hopefully if she says yes. ;)

I glanced at the book again today, its not real clear but i think they might be talking about if you want to use your amex from an ATM machine. Which i don't want to do, can't wait for the trip to get here!!

If you are interested in Disney Discounts (who isn't?) then you need to look around. I just renewed my Disney Club membership (last day to renew is December 12) and the Disney Club discounts will continue until December, 2003 and then the Disney Club will shut down. The new kid on the block is the Bank One Visa Disney Card. Disney originally said this card would be available by January, 2003. However, just like the Pop Century Resort, Disney has delayed this card and is now saying it will be available as of Spring, 2003. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
