America Sings...??

I've heard from a few people that once the CoP closes (Sometime in mid 2002-early 2003) that the imagineers are looking into replacing it with a newer, updated version of America Sings featuring a more modern version of the ending. Now, this brings us to two conclusions: a).They will build 100 some new animatronics or b). They will close Splash Mountain.
Now, I seriously doubt that they will close Splash Mountain, but there are rumors that Michael Eisner doesn't like Splash Mountain... Remember what happened last time he didn't like something...? (Does the phrase JIYI ring a bell?)
(They would most likely close the one in Disney Land as it features the entire cast from the original AS, where the ones at WDW are remakes and the entire AS cast is not featured, (The cats, the possum mother, the old gray mare, ect...)
Anyways, on a more positive note, I leave tommorrow for Disney Land! It's my first trip to DL, so wish me luck! :) lol Can't WAIT to ride the Matterhorn! And the Storybook Land canal boats, and Alice in Wonderland, and the canoes, and the original Splash Mountain, and.. well you get the picture, right? lol

LOL - you're kidding right? :)

Splash Mountain was personally steered to reality by Eisner - he loves that ride. There is no way either of the Splash's are going anywhere!

RE: Splash Mountain

I heard from the owner of a carny ride company that many of the conventions on safety are held at Disney because they set the standard for the industry. He said they toured Splash Mountain earlier this year, and the problem is that while the ride is perfectly safe without a restraint system, it's a problem because idiots keep jumping out at various points. The owner said NJ has the strictest regulations (Great Adventure lost a bunch of teens a long time ago in a haunted house that prompted strict legislation) and there's no way Splash would be approved here...he said he thinks for legal reasons (ie. being sued) they may have to reconfigure Splash boats to restrain passengers or make it more difficult to hop out (the problem being many people don't want to be restrained in attractions involving water...).

It would have to be reconfigured to resemble Kali River Rapids, or the lines would be incredibly long! Because it's water, they can't speed up after loading, like Space Mountain, or other fast rides, but have to make people move faster before loading. People don't seem to mind being restrained in "rapids" type rides, but maybe it's because they're all outdoors. (at least the ones I've seen)

I agree, Marcia (although I think part of the reason people don't mind being restrianed in Kali is because they very well could fall out otherwise!). It may be as simple as a bar that lowers to prevent hopping out...

Well...

What I've heard is that when first presented with the idea of Splash Mountain he exclaimed "WHAT? This is not Knox Berry Farms!" soo.... you draw you own conclusions...

It's not even intelligence, sadly, Marcia.

a) studies have shown repeatedly that when on vacation, people throw their brain away, and

b) even "smart" people do stupid things (I had a brilliant student set his pants on fire in class--on purpose. This is me: "Aw, you know I have to write that up...") (said student is featured on MTV this month bossing around his family)

I don't understand your conclusions. What does closing the CoP have to do with Splash Moutain?

And Mighty, I've thrown my brain away in advance...I leave for WDW in less than 20 days!!:D

Splash Mountain NOT Closing

SPLASH MOUNTAIN IS NOT CLOSING!!!

Splash Montain at WDW is not closing. It would be suicide for the park. They could re-configure it, but it definatley would not close.

Here's a way they could change it...they could have lap bars like on Jurassic Park River Adventure, and have them lock once the boat passes a point on the ride, i.e. once the boat clears the station. The restraint would not have to come all of the way down, this would make it more enjoyable, and more safer. Just my 2 cents.

Splash Mountain Will Not Close!

P.S. Sorry if I came on a little strong!

Don't apologize... its amazing how one little comment can erupt into a huge rumor. As Steve said above, Splash Mountain is one of Eisner's "Children" and absolutely in no way whatsoever will it be changed, modified, or closed. SM is about a Disney movie.... why would it be changed... the movie didn't change. Plus, why would Disney close one of its "Flag Ship" rides just so it can frankenstein its parts into a smaller, less know attraction at 1 park. It doesn't make sense... I think Disney has enough money to buy some audio-animatronics. They just spend $5 Billion on a cable network, I think they can spare some more.

People, please say no more about this before we start a huge rumor. (Next week at other Disney Sites & Orlando Sentinel - "Space Mountain to Close" j/k)

I heard from a friend at Disney that they are going to redo Cinderella's castle and make it pink. Not pink like the 25th anniversary but pink like DLP ;) :p

If that's the case, your best hope is drowning...climbing on shore in there will only make things worse...at least if you stay in the boat, you eventually get to leave and not hear that song any more! :)

When do you leave, miss already-lost-her-mind?

We're just going down for a long weekend. We're flying down August 16th and we're coming home August 20th. I can't wait, Migthy! I've taken 12 credits this summer so I am ready for a break. I'll be done with the Summer semester in about a week and a half and then a week later I'll be on my way to see Mickey and the gang with my sisters and my little brother. I didn't tell them but we're staying on property at Dixie Landings (i know, PORS, but I like Dixie Landings better). The only time they've stayed on property is when we camped at the Fort Wilderness Campground so I think they'll be surprised and happy. I'm also renting a convertible for our trip which they don't know about. I know its probably going to be too hot to put the top down during the day but we can at night on our way to Pleasure Island.:D

Oh, have fun, Tink! I want to go...

I'm sure they'll love staying on-site!And a convertible--woohoo!

You did 12 credits this summer? You have thrown your brain away! ;)

I'm sure you did a great job--you've certainly earned this vacation! I had to take two grad courses one summer, and I hated it. It felt like there wasn't enough time to learn everything and there was always something due. Yucky.

BTW, you're flappy-winged avatar always cheers me up! :)

I have learned one thing this summer - I'm never going to do 12 credits in the summer again!!! The summer has gone really fast, which is not good, but at least I made the most of my time. If I had not taken the classes, the summer probably would have gone fast anyway. Taking all of these classes would not have been so bad if that was all I had to do but unfortunately I work full time. Normally I am able to kinda do classwork at my desk at work but I was too busy to do that this summer so I actually had to do homework at HOME. Bummer...;)

My avatar makes me happy too - that's why I picked it! I like yours too - can't wait to see the real thing. Besides, it reminds me of my plan to one day inhabit SE and make it a thrill ride.
