Yet people eat baby sheep and pigs. If its tasty and properly butchered get it on a plate.
I agree, it is rather hypocritical but many peoples eating likes and dislikes have no basis in logic. Bugs are a mainstay in a number of different countries and they are incredibly good for you to boot, but you will sooner find a $100 bill laying on the street than a person who would eat them.

There was actually a de facto ban on horse meat in the US that got lifted last year. It is available in very limited markets but eating horse meat is very taboo in the US. The chances of it becoming common in the US is next to zero.

Ayup.

And in some countries dogs and cats are commonly eaten as a protein source. Or large portions of India who deem cows to be holy and won't think of eating them. It's all a matter of how the particular society holds views on what is and is not an acceptable meat source. And what is and is not viewed as a cuddly friendly creature to keep as a pet.

Not to stir the pot more, but the "tasty and properly butchered" argument means we should be asking where the guinea pig, dog, and cat dishes are being served. Or where I could find a decent elephant trunk roast (Ethiopian place in DC - kinda looks like a meat pretzel when sliced). Not wanting to cast aspersions on non-US dining habits, everyone has to realize that this is the US and certain taboos and behaviors apply. Besides, I was of the understanding there wasn't a USDA qualified slaughterhouse for horse for human consumption in the states.
