Okay so if we already booked a trip for May, and when we arrive in May we are going to purchase AP's will they give us the AP rate for our rooms once we purchase the passes? Like once we check in and go buy our passes will they credit our credit card or what?

From what I understand, they might ask to see your AP's at the time you check in at the resort. Worst case scenario, just run over to the closest park, grab the passes and head back to the resort.

Who knows, maybe you'll get a cool CM that will allow you to flash the AP's later that day.

I have used AP rate for the last 4 years and never once been asked for an AP upon checkin. In that time I have made 15ish trips.

Maybe it is just luck. Possibly the CM'sreally just don't care.

I just did this recently. We have a trip planned for December, but since we live so close now we will more than likely make a couple weekend trips before then. A day or so after I made room reservations I called and asked how it worked if we would have AP's but didn't have them yet. The lady told me she could give me the rate now and then I would just have to show the AP upon check-in.

I assume it's the same with everyone.

We would be checking in first though. I guess if they fronted on us we could check our carry on with concierge and go do our thing in the parks and check in later.

You do not have to have APs to book the AP rate when it's available. If you don't have them at check-in but are getting them, they'll usually let you show them later that day [sometimes the next]. If you show up booked at rack rate, get APs and try to switch then, there likely won't be any AP rate rooms at your resort or perhaps anywhere.

So... If you know for sure you'll be buying APs, book the AP rate as soon as possible.

People who already have APs often aren't asked because the system has equated their reservation to their APs already.

Yes, exactly.

The AP Rate is a special rate you have to secure. You don't just get a discount for being an AP holder. They are for specific dates and you must specifically book an AP rate.

It sounds like from the OP that they just booked a regular room rate and are thinking if they go buy AP's that they can apply some discount. It doesn't work that way.

CMs at the resort check in will not give any kind of discount. AP holders do not automatically get a discount. You have to book it in advance if it is available or even offered.

When we made reservations for our next trip we told them we were planning to get APs. They quoted us an AP rate for the booking and said that we would just have to have our passes by check in to keep the rate.

I didn't think 2011 AP rates are available yet, are they?

Nope. AP rates are only out through 12/25/10.

John, when AP rates are released for your dates, call and try to modify your reservation. If an AP rate is available for your dates/resort, book it. As Monty said and AEfx confirmed, you don't need to have an AP already to book an AP discounted room. Do NOT wait until check in, as they won't be able to do anything for you at that point.

I think its just luck. I have used AP discounts numerous times and everytime have been asked to show an AP.

Ditto. Standard AP trick: ALWAYS book ahead at rack rates - then lurk. Check the passholder site often. If a deal comes out for when you will be at WDW? Call, use your original Res number, and ask if they will apply the deal. If they will not? You pay rack :) An AP is no guarantee of ANY Hotel discount - it's a hunting license :).

I am SOOOO glad I'm not the only one who does that:lol:! It does become an obsession...I have GOT to get a deal..all my money will end up there anyway!

Keep looking at DVC...but I like Mousekeeping EVERY day:lol:

You can still get daily mousekeeping, it just costs extra. Honestly, I thought I would miss it, but I really don't. So far, anyway. And after what we had spent on a dozen or so 8-9 night trips in deluxe resorts, over the past 4 years... :dazzle: It would have paid for about 200 more points at Bay Lake Tower.

You know, now that I think about it (my hubby made the reservation- we had talked about so many options!) I think that the rate we got was for AAA and we were told we could possibly swap it for an AP rate if one was available. Oh well, my brain is mush this semester...
