Last year my wife and I were standing sort of behind the "Turkey Leg" stand in Frontierland looking toward Tom Sawyer's Island and we saw an alligator in the water swimming toward the Frontierland shore.

I asked a hostess if it was supposed to be in there and she said I don't think that it is.

Has anyone else seen it?

Cool! I'm always looking for them, but I haven't seen any yet. We love seeing the armadillos if we're out late or early at the resorts.

Heaven forbid that Florida, a state covered with swamps and lakes located in a subtropical climate, and surrounded by well over 500 miles of coastline thus all of which factor in creating the humid environments which several reptiles love, have alligators. If you don't bother them, they won't bother you.

Frankly, I'm more scared of some of the natives than of an alligator.

I have a picture of an alligator that I saw while on the Big Boat. It almost got a duck when I saw it, it went into stealth mode.

While playing golf at the Magnolia course a few years ago, I ran into 2 alligators. One was a baby, maybe 2 feet long, and it was just off the cart path in what I desribe as a drainage ditch. The water was maybe 18 inches deep and only about 4 feet wide. He was just chillin out.

As we played the back 9 and approached the the roadway, there is a lake that that snakes it way around. There was a gator in there and it was easily 6 feet long. It was about 20-30 feet from shore.

I got close to the edge of the water and started filming with my video camera. It decided to turn and come right at me. After about 10 feet, it went under but still appeared to be coming at me. The water is so murky, I couldn't tell.

But that was enough for me to realize that if it lunges up on shore, I was going to be lunch. I got out of there quick but never saw the gator again.

We informed the heads groundskeeper when we ran into him and he was genuinley concerned. I'm sure Disney doesn't want anything to happen to its guests like getting their hand bit off.

It obviously makes it a lot harder to get your wallet out and spend money at the parks.

A long time ago, around the time the Old Key West Resort was being built I stayed at the Caribbean Beach and there was an alligator right in front little lake in front of the hospitality house.
Someone on this thread said it best, its Southern Florida. :hammer:

It's an animatronic, most likely escaped from Jungle Cruise. They're amazingly lifelike these days, aren't they?

Come to think of it last time I was on the Liberty Belle with Captain Hook I did hear a certain "TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK" ;-)

We used to see them often at CBR. They would set traps for them in the pond at the front of the resort.
Also, we see them almost every time we come into MCO in those ponds you fly over when you're landing.

I first ran into the Magic Kingdom Gator about 2 years ago near that turkey leg stand. My friends and I were interested when it settled right up to that little bank right behind the stand, so we went and asked the guys at the stand if it was normal. They said he stops by every day but never bothers anybody (obviously he doesn't). Also, in the small pond out in front of Magic (near the bus road between the Contemporary and the Magic Bus Depot, I've seen 2 pretty good sized gators just chillin as well. Another time at Coronado Springs, I was walking over a bridge and looked down and saw a rather good sized gator swimming in the river. There was a guy walking the other way on the bridge and all he said was "No one's gonna believe us." Later that day I saw a boat out in this river with some nets in it and the guys in the boat were looking for something. But I've been going regularly for almost 20 years and I had never seen a gator in Disney until 2003.

My roomate worked at the parking lot at Disney MGM Studios and one day he saw a group of Asian tourists all gathered around pointing, laughing and looking at something on the ground. Well it turns out that there was a six foot alligator that these people were throwing pennies at. He said it was the most bizzare thing he had ever seen. From there he called animal control and they came to pick it up.

Yep, saw a gator right in that area on the bridge path between frontierland and liberty square. It was 4 years ago, though. How long do gators live?

The Gator from MK I believe was humanely captured in a gator trap that was actually placed below the turkey leg stand, and when they had caught it, they released it back into the wild.

You are indeed correct. Last year, I worked at Pecos, primarily as a busser. For a while, we had a position called "gator watch" which was basically trying to calm guests down if they did see him, answer questions, etc... There were a few times where they tried to catch him with jaw ropes and such, but to no luck. Oddly enough, now I just about run into his very "life like" cousins in a boat every day.
