allergy free chicken tenders

My son is allergic to milk. He's only 10 months now, he will be 15 months when we visit Disney and worry about what he will be able to eat since most things on the kids menu is chicken fingers (which most breadings contain milk), mac and cheese or pizza. Even lots of places that have french fries have milk listed as an ingredient! I couldn't believe how many things had milk in them that I never had to worry about until now!

Tell me about it! When my DD was about 5 (she is 11 now) her dr. thought she might have a milk allergy. He told us we should give her a milk free diet for a month so we could determine whether she was allergic. I never knew how many foods have milk or milk by products in them. Luckily, it turns out she is not allergic.

eliezrah: boy do i sympathize with you. 20 allergies!! i think the egg allergy at times make me nuts. i couldn't image. but you are an inspiration to the fact that you let him go to camp. my son goes to day care and i am constantly calling to make sure they give him the right food. one time i got it mixed up-he was ok-but potentially very dangerous. brenda is great-she really goes the extra mile. we have been to disney a few times with allergies, and we feel really comfortable.

its sad when a restaurant says they are not sure, so you must avoid it. the kids miss out because they refuse to do more.

love the pictures-he seems to enjoy it all!!

You're lucky she wasn't allergic! Milk is a crazy thing to avoid, like PP said.... We were thrilled that WDW was able to make pizza for DS anyway!

We cross posted.... I was terrified to let him go to camp, but I figured I either had to let him go now or in Sept when he starts pre-school. The camp is at his soon to be school where DD has been going so they know us and know DS. They also have experience with food allergy kids, although none with as many as DS! He has a MedicAlert bracelet and I send in all his food with bright orange stickers and his name all over. I also made a poster for them with a list of all his allergies, his possible reactions, and what to do (ie when to give Benadryl and when to do the Epi)...

Don't get me started with restaurants... we were kicked out of one a week ago today after they seated us and told us they do make his lunch. Turns out they were just lazy and didn't feel like washing a pan to grill his chicken in....

Brenda is a G-dSend!!!!

elierah, thanks for the e-mail address. It is amazing how well children adapt to their allergies. My nine year old daughter only has a peanut allergy. She, however, has not put anything in her mouth since she was two without finding out if it has any traces of peanut in it. She is vocal about it and has educated many adults on this subject. It does get harder for them when they get into school. It is hard for her not to be able to eat certain treats because children make fun of her and she doesn't like to feel different. Make sure when he gets into school that you communicate his allegies to his teachers. I am sure you will but I have actually had a few parents over the years who have not told me there child was allergic to peanuts and such. It amazes me!

mickeypal, thanks for the tip. For camp and his upcoming preschool we did make sure they are fully aware. We love that the school has a school nurse from Sept - June and that makes us feel better about it, but still nervous! He can react if he touches even a drop of milk and I'm scared about what might happen if the kid next to him spills some... he's good but he's still only 2 1/2!
