So how do you get allergy free chicken tenders? Are they made from chickens who were only fed grain and zyrtec? :lookaroun

If I am not mistaken they are gluten free chicken tenders. There is nothing different about the chicken rather the breading has been altered to be gluten free.

I must admit, I've never even heard of someone being allergic to chicken tenders. I can't imagine how horrible life would be with such an allergy!

It is not the chicken tenders they are allergic to, it is the bread coating. Some people cannot have the gluten that it contains. You either grill, bake or steam or find another type of coating for the fried kind.

I would presume that's the case, Richard. Maybe also no dairy (if they're buttermilk-breaded in the first place?)

I actually know someone who is allergic to chicken. I have a daughter who is allergic to peanuts so I pay attention to all information about allergies. I, however, was even surprised about the chicken allergy.

Then they would have to avoid the chicken tender altogether, makes no difference if they are gluten free or not.

My son is allergic to milk. He's only 10 months now, he will be 15 months when we visit Disney and worry about what he will be able to eat since most things on the kids menu is chicken fingers (which most breadings contain milk), mac and cheese or pizza. Even lots of places that have french fries have milk listed as an ingredient! I couldn't believe how many things had milk in them that I never had to worry about until now!

allergies

i know how hard it is with allergies. my son isn't allergic to chicken, but egg!! anything that has egg, must be avoided. fortunately, he can handle anything else-but in most cases-if they do an allergy free food-it eliminates everything!! and in most cases it does change the taste alot.
we are headed to disney in aug. and was happy that now he'd be able to try them. by the way, mcdonalds chicken mcnuggets does not have egg, but chick-fil-a's do. you just have to be educated. the last time we were in disney in april, we tried the egg free cookies from divvies. they were'nt very good, but my son didn't seem to mind them!!

My DS had over 40 food allergies (now down to 20) that we've had to live with since he was about 9 months old. It stinks and it's heartbreaking, but he does great with it!

To anyone with food allergic children, contact Brenda Bennett (I'll get her e-mail address for you). She did WONDERS for us with our DS when we went in Oct. We had to plan where we would eat (even the quick serve places) and what time we'd be there to make it easier. She had all the chefs either call or e-mail me personally to go over what he's allergic to. I think there was only 1 place that forgot we were coming and had to make it while we waited, every other place had it all ready for us.

He was allergic to wheat and most gluten then (outgrew it since), anaphylactic to dairy and egg, allergic to anything with seeds, all tree and peanuts, fish, beef, and a TON of other things including some fruits as well. You would not believe how well he ate at WDW (and on the cruise as well)!!

Contact Brenda and she'll send you a list of all allergy related food stuff and which restaurants to get it. She truly made my DS's first trip extra magical... and all the head chefs personally brought his food to him as well and some of them made such a fuss out of his also!! He got everything that looked like what we were eating... Mickey shaped pancakes, waffles that were safe for him, etc...

Some rules to follow that will make your situation much easier to deal with is the rule of three... for table service dining, there are three people you need to mention the allergy to...

1) The dining reservation agent (when you call 407-WDW-DINE to arrange for you meal).
2) The host/hostess (when you check in at the restaurant)
3) The server (when they actually arrive at your table).

Extra special / extraordinary (I don't want to say "unusual" but you know what I mean) requests should be overcommunicated as much as possible, perhaps even contacting the restaurant directly 24 hours prior to your meal (use the WDW switchboard # in my signature).

For buffet type meals, I have seen the chefs actually walk down the buffet line with a guest addressing allergy concerns for each individual item.

people have allergies to everything. I even remember someone many years ago on TV who was allergic to water! Not joking!

I agree to make sure you tell everyone you speak with about all the allergies over and over again as well as contacting Brenda. She's the one who will contact the chefs directly for you. For us, DS couldn't do the buffet due to cross contamination, but we were still able to eat at buffets since the chefs just made special meals for him.

I found a few more pics... there were from the cruise, but he ate like this in the parks as well...

LOL The guy was cutting it for us! LOL :ROFLOL:DS is actually VERY good considering he's not even 3 yet. He can tell you most of the foods he's allergic to and he knows not to eat from anyone else's plate. He just started camp this week, which freaked me out since I wouldn't be there, but he does great!

I have trouble with the phrase that some restaurants use where it says, "Beer battered chicken".
It sounds like some poor chicken was hit with beer bottles.
