What’s going on with Xcelerator? It’s such a problematic ride and unreliable. In the past, Knott’s has always done away with it’s problematic rides or tweaked them. These include Perilous Plunge, Windseeker, Motorcycle Chase, Windjammer, XK-1, and Vertigo. They closed Montezuma and decided to renovate it (at some point) before it became an issue. They are still holding on to Xcelerator even after 21 years so I think it’s time to Old Yeller this thing and put something new in its place. That whole area over there is not visually satisfying either and Knott’s has done such a good job over the last 10 years renovating lands.
Xcelerator is actually the prototype coaster for another Cedar Fair owned coaster that has had safety issues. They decided to shut Xcelerator down until the manufacturer figures out a way to get the newer one working again. The rumor is there is a new propulsion system on site. Hope is to reopen it next year. They did just repaint it before covid.

Xcelerator is down because a part broke, and they were waiting for the manufacture to make it for them. The part has arrived at the park, and they are now working on getting the ride back up by mid-August. I was at the park this past Thursday and there were a bunch of guys working on the catch car and launch/return cables.

They must have finally figured it out. It's been closed for years. Too bad it isn't magnetic like Montazooma will be.

Blasphemy!

Hydraulic Launch>>>>>>>>>>any magnetic launch.

I'm so happy they are keeping it the way it is, that launch is one of the most intense coaster elements in the world.
Hydraulic launches are prone to failure. What is the cable snaps? It has happen before. Magnetic is far safer.

The Hanging (This is called The Hanging: UnCancelled)

Good for them. The OC Register just released this article on this issue this evening.

The Hanging is back, and Knott's executives realize that you have to have a sense of humor. That is very refreshing. :)

"The politically correct culture that forced Knott’s Berry Farm to quietly kill off “The Hanging” finds itself in the crosshairs of a resurrected version of the pop culture skewering show that doubles down on all the tasteless comedy, pointless bloodletting and senseless killings.

“I’m not taking any prisoners with it,” said Jeff Tucker, Knott’s Berry Farm show writer and director of this year’s edition of “The Hanging.” “I’m not censoring myself in any way. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.”

“The Hanging: Uncancelled” triumphantly returns to the Buena Park theme park for the 50th anniversary of Knott’s Scary Farm running on select nights from Sept. 21 to Oct. 31.

Knott’s Berry Farm effectively retired “The Hanging” in 2019 when the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the annual Halloween Haunt event in 2020 and the comedy stunt show failed to return in 2021 and 2022.

“The Hanging” ended its decades-long run amid increasingly intense negative feedback and the quickening pace of pop culture that made the comedy parody show tougher to pull off every Halloween.

“It’s been four years,” Tucker said during an interview at Knott’s. “We have gone through a lot as a world and as a people. It’s OK to be funny again. It’s OK to laugh again. It’s OK to have things that are not PC culture.”

Rather than shrink from the criticism and kowtow to upset PC sensibilities, Tucker is leaning into the disapproval and condemnation with the latest version of “The Hanging” that is even more offensive and over the top."

Dr. Cleaver Returns
I'm get wanting to do a big musical celebration show for the anniversary, but I will miss Puppet Up. I'm sure many saw it enough to get sick of it in the time that it was around, but still.

I wish I was clearer on what Dr. Cleaver Returns actually was.

Eh, costs are going up everywhere, why wait? Shutter it now! Or shoehorn in Puppet Up or one of the many, many better mazes they retired over the past several years into that space instead!

I know Jeff Tucker pretty well. This is great. Now maybe the other theme parks can bring back their discontinued pop culture shows for their Halloween events.

Excited for The Gauntlet to be back, Chilling Chambers and Room 13 sound incredible (while the third maze will also probably be really good) and the departing mazes this year are the two that probably should have left last year, which means 2024 could be an all-timer.

Happy the Hanging is back, sad that Puppet Up is back as that show was real funny.

What is the second departing maze besides Dark Entities? The Depths?

So The Gauntlet is a sort of evil Medieval area?

The articles I read hinted at this being the last season for Dark Entities and The Depths. I assume they announced the Dark Entities thing while they're hinting at the Depths, but it wouldn't shock me, as Knotts tends to close mazes in pairs more often than not so that they have a few new offerings each year.

Edit: Oh yeah, as for The Gauntlet, yeah that's basically the gist of it, but it was so different than the other scare zones that it stood out as an amazing thing. I'm interested to see what they choose to bring back and what gets changed going forward since it last ran back when I first started going in the late 2000s.

Yeah you're right. I looked at one of the articles (which is likely a copy and paste thing from Knotts PR)

They had this at the end of the description:

"But be warned as this is your last chance to walk this treacherous path through a sunken ship and into the dark unknown that lies beyond"

And rewatching the livestream, they left out the part saying this is the final season for it.

The Depths and Entities are the oldest mazes in this years lineup both opened in 2018

I get why they're getting rid of The Depths, and parts of it never quite cohered properly (at least, I never quite experienced them working quite the way they were clearly intended to) like the elevator bit. There were parts of the maze that seemed to work fine but without any impact. But it was the first maze I went through with the lazer water fog effect, and the reveal of the boat took my breath away the first time I did it. It's time, but I'll miss it.

Hopefully The Gauntlet is cool. I may be the only one bummed to lose The Hallow and the classic midwest autumn vibe that it nailed down perfectly (RIP Pumpkin Eater).

Dark Entities? Bye Felicia.

I had to highlight this as the effect blew my mind the first time I saw it! One of the cleverest things I've ever seen in a maze. The scaractors were utilizing it perfectly too.

If it's any consolation, you aren't.

The laser water effect and boat were by far the highlights of that maze, and made it a worthwhile trip through by themselves, but boy did the Depths just leave a lot to be desired. It sounds like some of those effects will be present in Cinema Slasher, and I wouldn't be surprised if they also showed up in Chilling Chambers if that sticks around (the premise is real good as a way to hit some highlights of past mazes).

Dark Entities should have been the shooter, not the vampire maze.

I will miss the Hallow for the atmosphere it brought but that whole area of the park was essentially abandoned over the last few years, so maybe they'll start putting stuff over here again with the Gauntlet return (BRING BACK CORNSTALKERS AND GUNSLINGER!).

I wish I was clearer on what Dr. Cleaver Returns actually was.
It was a show that ended in 2008 at the Birdcage Theater. There are videos on youtube of the show. Its basically a comedic Illusionist/Magician show

Great to see the Hanging back. It will be going into the Wagon Camp probably to avoid someone "accidentally" watching the show then complaining.

No Boo Necklace available for purchase this year. Do you think this is a money grab?? or trying to make it family friendly?? Only works in the streets not inside mazes. They also have an interactive lantern for purchase that interacts with mazes, entertainment and around the park.

They are once again open on Wednesday Nights in the month of October always a really good night to go for lower crowd levels.

Puppet Up should have never been in that giant theatre. Its too small and niche a show to fill that space. Its also a show that exists outside of Scary Farm, so I wouldn't waste my limited Scary Farm time to see a shorter version of a show I could see outside of the park.

Dr. Cleaver is fantastic! He and Ed Alonzo would switch off between hosting at the Goul Time Theatre and Birdcage. Just great classic comedy, magic, and bits with his assistant Wolfgang.

Any ideas of where Room 13 will be? It sounds like it needs to be in the Roaring 20's section, but the only maze location that has been there was the Bumper Cars and that hasn't been used in years. I'd be excited if that was coming back.

I just hope The Hanging is funny. The last few years it was really cringe-worthy.
