All Star Music/Movies

Has anyone had experience in staying at either the All Star Music or Movies Resorts? We are going down for a quick trip for the Halloween Party in October(staying with family) but we want to return for a full vacation in February. We usually stay off-site but we wanted to do something different-and within budget! :) I appreciate any info you all have!

We have stayed at All Star Sports and All Star Music and enjoyed both places. The only real differences was saw was the size of the room (and since we weren't in our room much, we didn't care) and the fact that the transportation situation when staying there isn't as good as when staying at the other resorts. That issue was more important to us. Fewer buses are run to these resorts, the waits are therefore longer, and the various park pick-up places for the All Star motels are further away than the other resorts. There were a few times that the transportation situation was absolutely maddening. We did ask about this at the front desk. The lady was nice but said this is typical. So if speedy and regular transportation is important to you, especially at night, be prepared.

I just returned from ASM in April. I don't understand all this talk about bad bus service.
First of all there are bus stops at each resort,
The walks to and from the busses are not that bad,
The food is good even though it's cafeteria atmosphere.
If you wait for a bus more than 20 minutes I would be surprised and that's only if you just missed one.
There are many busses and they run constantly cause the resorts are always crowded they have more busses.
As for any problems with your room or neighbors just ask and they will move you,why stay where your not happy.
They are great for kid's cause or their theme's and to kids the fun never stops, plus they have on site laundromats.

My last trip to Disney, Oct. 20-24 2001,we stayed at All Star Music. The year before we stayed at All Star Movies. I liked the Movies better because it had a bigger and better food court and our room wasn't far from the pool and food court. Our room at the Music was very far from the food court and buses. By the second day, we drove our car to the bus stop. We also experienced very large groups of middle school kids on school trips that were staying in our unit. Beyond loud and obnoxious, howabout roll call at 12:00 AM in the courtyard by the history teacher. I was woken up several times and did speak to the front desk and they told me that they would speak to the group. Needless to say, I personally spoke to the kids and the teachers and they finally calmed down. I had a good time but I wouldn't risk staying in the middle of touring groups again. By the way, Disney was crowded and it was only a month after 9/11.

Explanation for comments about bus service

I realize that everyone's experiences are different, partly because they have different expectations and previous experiences. Having stayed at other on-site resorts on previous occassions, we were very disappointed when we stayed at All-Star Music last June. During the daytime, a wait of 35 minutes for a bus to take us back to the hotel was not uncommon. One night after visiting Downtown Disney and heading home about 10:00, we waited over 45 minutes. We were tired, numerous buses from other resorts would pull through (more than one round for each of the other resorts), and there a long line of us sat on the concrete waiting for a bus to our resorts. Not everyone got on the first bus that arrived, and I have no idea how long those people had to wait for the next one. Perhaps this is unusual, but I did talk to the lady at the front desk and then I called some office, I forget which one, and was told they were sorry, but when it's really busy . . . but they'd look into it.

Bus Service to All-Stars

Hi,
I'm reading all these negative things about the bus service to the All-Stars, and having stayed there so many times through out the years, I just wanted to add something, hopefully some of you will hear me.
Disney Transportation has it's ups and downs. Recently, they have greatly improved their service (as they have always tried to do), only this time it seems to be really working. They have instituted something called MOD (Magic on Demand). It is a system of dispatching buses where they are needed most. I saw MOD being used at the All-Stars three weeks ago to great success. Often, there would be two buses to the same location, because they saw that a lot of people were waiting. Often, All-Star Movies (where we were staying this time) had IT'S VERY OWN BUS in the AM or at closing because there were a lot of people. NEVER, NEVER did I wait longer than 20 min. for a bus (and this was the rare occasion!) Usually we waited 5 min. A bus always, always came. Same thing at closing. I was never late for a PSing, and we were delivered right to our resort. 8 out of 10 times I had a seat.
Yes, in the past, the bus service was sometimes not this great, but they are constantly trying to fix their problems and improve the system. But I do know for a fact that the All-Stars have an excellent bus service. They do not get less buses then the more expensive resorts. In fact, they get MORE buses due to the fact that the All-Stars are very popular. They have also reconfigured many of the All-Star bus stops at the parks recently. All-Stars is NOT always the last resort in the line-up. In fact, we were right next to the Wilderness Lodge stop at Epcot, and some moderate resorts were AFTER us!
Tyler, where are you???????We need your input on this. Anyway, I would not hesitate to stay at the All-Stars again, EVEN IF IT WAS A CHOICE BETWEEN THAT OR A MODERATE RESORT.
Thanks:)

Hey 2Much2Do...I totally agree with you...wonder if we passed each other...we were there May 25-June 3rd. All Star Movies bus services were excellent for us except one time when the driver let a group of out of control people rush on the bus when we were trying to get off with the little ones and stroller all in tow! Our kids (five of them from 2-14 yrs old...including three that are our nephews/niece) all loved the hotel...the arcade, the pools..the boys liked Mighty Ducks, the girls liked Fantasia...we took loads of photos at all the sections...next time we are trying for Toy Story. we were in Dalmation Bld. 1 facing the two dogs..so close to both pools, laundry, food courts, bussses etc...we even got help with the luggage. We dont go to pay premium prices for rooms we are hardly in, we go to enjoy the parks, so I do suppose its all about what you want. With the change in security measures I would pick any all star before going off property...Movies is now our favorite. ...you know how they hold people at TTC until 9am if you drive your car to the parks...where onsite guests go straight to the gate and can go through security. And we never had a problem getting our packages delivered to the resort, yeah we had to stop off in the gift shop to get them, still much better than hauling them yourself.
By the way, what happened to Tyler???we looked for him everyday, never caught up with him~ havent seen him on the boards either!

Sounds like you had a great time! I am so glad, as I remember you were a little concerned before your trip. I actually left on the 16th of May, but we had an awesome time as well! Yes, I think maybe things at the All-Stars have improved in the past couple years!!!!:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Oh, and sorry for the long rant-post! :D

No problem..... and definately no need to appologize. We do the same "turnaround" in the parks when encountering ANY tour group! it just doesn't make sense to fight any crowd to get on a ride.

We have a realative @ the park management level, and got the full scoop on the tour groups from South America, and it mirrors what you explained to perfectly.

They are there to have fun (As are we).... its just some of the groups really do stay at the various AllStars, and it really doesn't seem that they have a lot of adult supervision... which is no problem at the parks, but usually a big hastle for others at the hotels....... Which is why I left the warning for those looking at the AllStars.

We've dragged out butts (with our daughter) back to the room near 1:30-2:00 AM after one of disneys special nights, only to encounter what looks like all the kids out, in the pool, screaming... etc. I'm not sure how they do it.... and still make it back to the park the next day.... but I'd think that the chaperones would at least reign them in a little overnight.....

On a positive note, it really does seem like the kids are having the time of their lives! And it does sound like the family has gone through much trouble (and money) to get them to Orlando.
