All Star Movies Upgrade

Can anyone help me out with a query please. I've been looking at accommodation at the All Stars Resort. We've stayed there 3 times before, always at Movies, but now it appears that Music and Sports are standard, but there is an upgrade charge to stay at Movies. I can't seem to find an explanation for this anywhere. Has something changed at Movies in the last year?

where are you finding this upcharge at Movies? All of the values charge the same rate for standard and preferred rooms (Music has family suites which are unique to that resort).

That's what I thought. Coming from the UK we book a package with Virgin Holidays on line. I got to the point of booking the All Stars resort and the room charges were standard for Music and Sport, but if you want to select Movies there is an upgrade charge of £93 per person (I think that's about $130). I must admit I'm baffled and thought I was missing something. Looks like I may have to contact Virgin and ask them if there's no obvious reason for it.

Does it state the room you are getting. It sounds like it is a difference between a standard and preferred room.

The upgrade is for a standard room at Movies, the preferred room is even more. :veryconfu Just tried going through a booking again with my husband just to make sure I'm not going mad, and yep, it still wants an upgrade fee for Movies. From the answers on here I'm starting to think Virgin have got something wrong.

I noticed the same when getting a quote at disneyworld.com the other night.

I assumed it was more expensive as all the regular rooms were sold and only prefered ones were left.

I know some of the UK companies (Virgin included I think) will raise their prices on Movies as it often the most desired resort.

I think it is just a matter of supply and demand. Movies is usually the first value resort to sell out due to its actual Disney related theme. I think these companies add a premium on to the Movies resort.

Try booking with WDTC and see what the price might be. Can you go to disneyworld.com or does it automatically route you to WDTCUK or disneyworld.com.uk?

It's definitely not a preferred room at Movies - the actual wording says 'upgrade to Movies Std'. I can believe the idea of a price increase because us Brits prefer a particular theme - I must admit my family wouldn't appreciate Sports as we're not into baseball, ice hockey or American football. Music - maybe....., but Movies, yeh, we've seen all those films and like them!

Having said that, I'm checking with a local travel agent today to get their take on things. I'll happily stay at Music or Sports if it means we're not going to get ripped off - after all, it's the place to sleep at night, the main fun is in the parks.

Thanks for the info and opinion everyone. If I do get a definite explanation I'll post it on here.

I do not believe that the price difference is an upgrade as much as it is a difference between resorts according to bookings and renovations. I have had years when only one of the All Stars was available for a Florida resident discount because of the work being done to either the interior or exterior of the resort. I think that WDW offers better rates on certain resorts in order to justify the inconvenience of any maintenance work being done.

Not happy about this.....

Well, went into the travel agents, they checked the prices, and their details also had a price increase for Movies - they had no idea why. I have since tried Turkey's suggestion above and guess what, WDW US site doesn't have any price difference, but the WDW UK site does. It's not a case of availibility either because I used the same dates to get a price quote on both sites. Any Brits reading this, please be aware that Disney seem to be 'taking the Mickey' out of us!!!:mad: I would use the US site to book accommodation, but unfortunately the flight deals aren't as good.
