Alien Encounter Promo?

That promo is typical Disney hype. Sort of like the standing up promos about the Tower of Terror. They aren't meant to be actual representations of the attraction.

Exactly. I remember this exact promo from when I was a kid. Also the standing up TOT promo. I was really young so I always thought that was exactly how the attractions would be, and then they weren't. I remember these promos being on the free Vacation Planning Videos back in the 90's....

That AE vid was the one on the 94-5 vacation planners. Yes, it is full of `not quite how it is` shots marketing liked so much - like ToT, SM, firework shows.

Makes you wonder why they were afraid to show the real deal (AE was in T&A by then) - or at least make the footage look like the finished product.

That was kinda weird. That must've been the alien originally looked like in Late 1994.

I didn't put the two together, but i was reading a series on jimhillmedia.com about Alien Encounter, and he talks about how it was originally supposed to be the alien from the alien movies. http://www.xofacto.com/justin32/mar-alien.jpg
And if i remember correctly, they say that the marketing department didn't get the memo that they changed their minds about using the alien franchise. This would account for the elongated head shadow in the tube, and the drip of acid slime. but the claw hands don't match. It makes me wonder.

And don't forget that tail hanging from the balcony.

Dont think it was a mistake.

I remember the Alien attraction always used
alien1.gif

as its promo photo and we all know the claw never came to grab your head.

As mentioned above, its the same with the TOT standing lift.

I really wish they would pull through with making an alien ride, I think it would really draw younger crowds.

The ironic thing is, that's exactly why Disney pulled the plug on AE--because it wasn't appropriate to the young crowds...

Although I know what you mean, and I completely agree. If only Disney had originally placed it in MGM, I imagine it'd still be open today. :(

Do you by chance have a link to the JHM articles? Thanks!

--anyday (although that is the Dog Alien... I couldn't find a good one that showed the entire body in light).

EDIT: Actually, it appears to be some form of cross between the Alien3 and Resurrection designs, as the Alien3 design was four-legged, but the Resurrection design reintroduced the back spines and gave the tail a paddle on the end for the swim scene, in addition to having four fingers on each hand.

Really nerding out here. :lookaroun
