Aladdin DVD

Has anyone heard anything on when Aladdin might be released on DVD? They are pre-selling Lion King, so I'm wondering when they might decide to do the same for Aladdin. I don't want to buy it on VHS!

Rumor has it that it will be released to the IMAX at Christmas then released to DVD next October.

Ditto! I was wondering this myself. Hopefully it will be a big special edition like the Beauty and the Beast 2-disc set.

They should do the same with The Little Mermaid sometime soon.

Yeah, Alladin is supposed to be the next DVD in the Platinum series after Lion King.

After Alladin comes out next year, I don't think anybody is really too sure what the next Platinum will be. I'm hoping for Song of the South, but we all know that will never happen. :veryconfu

Yeah. My boyfriend literally fell upon a copy of song the south in this random comic book store in Midtown Manhattan. We guard it with our life!

Dont you think that if Aladdin was coming to IMAX, they'd be releasing some sort of advertising already? I really hope it is brought to IMAX, though!! I would love to see this one on such a large screen.

I saw a preview for it before Lion King IMAX Edition. They did most of (if not all of) the "Friend Like Me" number.

I'm confused - I saw "The Lion King" last year at an IMAX theater and also saw the preview for "Aladdin" for next year. They seem to be opening these IMAX releases on Christmas Day ("Beauty and the Beast" in 2001, "The Lion King" in 2002), but what is opening at our IMAX theater this 12/25 is "The Young Black Stallion" (also a Disney flick).

So - I don't know if/when they are releasing "Aladdin" at the IMAX (I remember thinking those carpet rides on an IMAX screen would make me feel really woozy!) and therefore, if/when it will subsequently come out on DVD ...

"The Little Mermaid" was released on DVD back when Disney was finally getting into the DVD market - but it has nothing but the movie on it and it most definitely deserves a deluxe/special edition treatment now that Disney has been doing it for the other movies.

Incidentally, an employee at a Disney store told me the next IMAX film after "Aladdin" was going to be "Cinderella".

Anyone know anything else ?

I read Aladdin will start on IMAX on January 1st, 2004. If it doesn't do too good, like Lion King and Beauty and the Beast didn't do as good as Disney imagined), they'll axe the IMAX releases and go straight for the Platinum releases, 2 per year untill 2007, in time for the new technology.
