I'm headed to AKL for the first time in a couple weeks. I love POFQ, but had an opportunity to stay at AKL and grabbed it.

If I got a room with a Savannah View, where would be the "best" area or suggested spot? Hoping if there is space in a certain area, maybe I can request it...

Thanks

I think that would depend on what your definition of best is. Someone here may think close to the lobby is best, while someone else may want to be far away from the lobby.
Someone may like the seclusion of distant rooms while someone else may not like the walk as the hallways are long.
Someone may want to be close to the pool, while someone else may want to be far away from the pools.
Someone may want to be in a higher level while someone else may want to be on a lower floor.
And they can all think their choice is best.

Are you asking about best viewing spot? because if you have a "savannah" view, in theory you should just be able to step on your balcony and see the animals.

Right, but I suppose there are some locations that may be better than others. For us, the best room is usually the one we are in. I remember the first time we woke to giraffe and zebra right outside the room. We had coffee and pastries on the balcony and remember saying, "Wow this is the best room we have ever stayed at," but that opinion was shaped by the current experience. I have thought the same about several different WDW onsite and offsite locations.
Truth is, here at home, a squirrel may walk by, maybe a stray cat or even an opossum, but never a giraffe or zebra. That makes AKL pretty special.

We stayed on either the 3rd or 4th floor with a Sunset Savanna view. We were in the second block of rooms towards the corner. We had great views. The feeding bins for the giraffes were in the trees right outside our room. We got some great pics.

Touring Plans has a tool on the AKL section of their website that lets you see the room view or one from a nearby room. But usually it woud be suggested to request a particular trail, or the specifics of the room IE near an elevator, otherwise they won't know what you want and can't place you properly. But keep in mind the animals move, so what may have been a good spot now may not have a good view an hour from now.

I wouldn't count on it. We had rooms that were supposed to have great views of the animals and they were only great in the early morning when the animals ran away from the barn and the evening when the same animals were hearded back to the barn... Otherwise you might as well have been looking at a view of a deserted golf course. We saw more animals during a bad trip on the AK safari than we did in a week of the AKL room. So don't make my mistake and get your kids expectations up, they may be disappointed.... Frankly for the price they charge at AKL they should have CMs with cattle prods making the animal stand by your balcony all day long.

First time there we had a room that overlooked the Sunset Savanna (I think) with Kidani's lobby building in the distance. We were on the top floor - I forget the room #, but somewhere around 5318. It was a cool view, though bit of a walk to the lobby. Second time there we were on top floor again overlooking the Uzima - around room 5500. That was an "obstructed" Savanna view, but I'm not sure what the obstruction was. Still saw plenty of animals. Still a bit of a walk to the lobby I suppose, but that never bothers me. Not sure top floor is the best floor if you're interested in seeing the animals. It's almost too high. But that was fine by me.
