OK....is this true or not????

I was told recently that some strange changes have been made here, one of my favorite places to dine at Epcot....

Did they really take the hot foods off the buffet line and make you order them ala carte???

PLEASE!!!......Say it aint so.....

The latest menus at Deb's site are dated April, but they show the hot foods still as part of the buffet.

It's true. We ate there May 28th. The area behind the steam trays has been walled off and only the cold foods are left. All hot entees are ordered from the servers. We were told it would be about 10-15 minutes for the entrees to come out(and there were only about 5 tables with people at that time, about 3:30). It was probably less than 10 minutes before they brought the food.

The food was better quality and the portion size was OK, but as a person who likes to sample new stuff, it makes that really hard to do. The service was also very good. It's still a nice place to eat, just not as much fun after being spoiled by the old setup.

Thanks for the scoop WISHINGTREE!!!

It's too bad they have to continuously mess with the good things when there is so much other room for improvement!!! :brick:

I can't see how this would work for a solo diner like myself. Do I need to order 4 different entrees???

I can see this working if you have a full table and each person orders something different to share, but, like you said... for trying something new, it's gonna be hard because you won;t even know what it is!!!

Oh well.....there goes THAT priority seating reservation. Germany here we come!!!

Yep. That's about the only way. I'm taking a solo trip in Sept. or Oct. and I didn't think about that. I may actually skip Akershus this time just for that reason.

well i hope they dont get the brilliant idea to do this to other buffets we always hit the one in Germany, my girls love the food and the atmosphere and I like that we can take a break late in the day and only eat one big meal during the day. ok i like my wdw snacks ;) still i wonder what the thinking was behind this move. we wouldn't eat in Germany if it were an order off the menu type rest. we go for the buffet and trust me they aren't losing money on my family, but its the fact that you get your food immediately and there is something that pleases everyone.

I might be late posting this info. I ate at Akershus about April or May. I used to always eat lunch there. We decided to eat dinner that day. When we walked in I noticed that the buffet area was walled off. There were new, shorter buffet tables in front of the wall with all the cold items. Another set of tables had salad, soup and bread on it. It is true about the hot selections. I think they want to be more upscale. They give you small menus with a listing of about 6-10 different entrees. I do not remember everything though. We had poached mackeral with vegetables, a venison stew with biscuits, some kind of sausage, and chicken breast with some kind of cranberry sauce around the plate. There was other stuff on the menu that we did not try. I do remember a salmon dish, served with some kind of garlic custard. We did not order that, but I did see it go to another table. You can order as much as you want, the portions are not that big, so you can try a few things. I think they cook it to order, so it takes awhile. They also have some of the older items that you can order too. You may also go back and get cold items if you want too. I still think this is a good restaurant. I do not know if they do this at lunch though.

Is it still considered a buffet, even though we have to order the hot foods a la carte? Or do we pay for each a la carte dish now? That is so sad that they changed the restuarant to this format. I'm glad I got to try all the types of food before they changed.

It's still all you can eat, the entrees are just brought to your table now. I believe that you can order a la carte also.

SRH, The salmon that you mentioned was great.

It is still a buffet. You can go up and get all the soup, salads, cheese, etc. that you want. You do not pay extra for each dish, it is one buffet price. I am curious if they change the menu selections often. Anybody who eats there should ask if they can take one of the menus to post. They are just printed on cardboard, nothing expensive. Also, you can also ask for some of the older hot items (meatballs, rutabegas, etc.). They will also bring it to the table. I do not understand why they walled off the original buffet tables. Maybe they needed more space for the characters to change or something.
