I know that the photo is no longer included in the price of the meal. Do they still take a photo and then make you buy it or have they stopped taking the photo all together?

It says that photos are now found online through My Disney Experience which is linked to your Magic Band. Sorry they don't do them complimentary anymore. That was such a nice treat. Enjoy your trip!

PhotoPass is free. It's the Memory Maker that costs. If you want the Memory Maker, which pays for all of the pics you have taken on your trip, purchase it before you get there so it's less expensive.

You can still hand your camera to a CM or the Photopass/MM photographer and ask them to take a picture with it at each character photo opportunity, if you don't think you'll want to buy the whole shebang (by "shebang," I mean all of your Photopass/Memorymaker photos as a package).
