When we were at AK this year and saw the Lion King, I was wondering why there is no short cut to the main gate out, instead of having to walk that whole path back up the incline. Can some one answer that for me?

I don't fully understand what you are talking about. I would guess one of these two reasons.
1. Crowd control, people always go down paths that they are not suppossed to!
2. If your talking about inside the theature, Theature in the round is an incredebly neat way to present a show, but it does have a bad side and that is no ease of entrance/exit while the show is going on. It's a very complex way to have a show when there are that many people seeing it.

If this does not answer your question, post what path specifally, and i'll try to help you further.

Not inside but outside..

When you come out of the theater, you are incredibly close to the main gate at Animal Kingdom. Yet you need to walk back to the middle of the park and then out of the park when there could be a short path right to the main gate. its really kinda a pain and extra walking, especially if you already have leg problems.

If I understand correctly, bjlc57 would like to bypass walking out past Camp Minnie/Mickey area & the Island Mercantile area and somehow get out to the exit more speedily. The only way to exit most theme parks is past all the shops to one exit (Epcot being an exception). Like a casino, why would they make it easy to leave? The hope is that if you are leaving at a crowded time, you will shop & let the crowds disperse.

The only explaination I have is that it's Disney. Don't expect for there to be an easy way out of the park at the end of a show. You will always have to pass through other areas before exiting. This is because they want you to shop on the way out. It's simple really. And it there was a path straight to the park exit, people arriving would walk down that path and skip the rest of AK making the "show" uncontrolable. It's just the Disney way they lay out he park.

I can only imagine the Theatre was the first phase of planned expansion, with better access and more attractions planned to accompany it. After all, Camp Mickey Minnie was a cheap afterthought, to try to up the parks capacity, with planning fastracked after the rest of AK construction had started.

As far as the reason being that it is Disney, I've not been to Universal to see, but Sea World is set up the same way. It's just business, nothing personal.

To be perfectly honest with you, one of the only ways for CMs to get to the front of the park w/out walking would be to cut through the Pocahontas show area and that would take you close to the front. I think I only did that once or so...
