We did Yak and Yeti last time and weren't overly impressed.
The theming is nice, but it's not a masterpiece like Restaurantasarus (I'm not kidding, just don't actually eat there).
Yak and Yeti, like all of the "Asia" land is supposed to straddle Indian and Chinese cultures and aesthetics, but I felt the food at Yak and Yeti skews way too heavily on the side of conservative Chinese/American offerings. I was hoping to see more curry/Malaysian-based options, but being an in-park restaurant they have to cater the food to what most guests would like.
Jiko IS worth the trouble, as is Boma if you can stand the buffet format, but it's considerably more of a hassle to get from AK to AKL than you would think. Half an hour each way, including walking is optimistic.
Since Animal Kingdom is still basically a half-day park, you might consider eating somewhere in the park and spending the evening at AKL. There's a lot to see and explore there, especially if you've never been.
I don't know what pace your family goes at, but splitting up an Animal Kingdom day for a detour to AKL for Jiko, at least for lunch, is going to eat up a lot of bus time.
