For ten years now, My family has been taking Delta from our airport in New York. However, one year our plane was delayed and our connection left without us, leaving us in Atlanta overnight, the year after, they lost our baggage, and we were wondering about maybe considering Southwest so we can fly non-stop. Do any of you fly Southwest, and if so, do you like it?

Thanks everyone:sohappy:

My wife and I use Southwest out of New Orleans. It is a non-stop flight (1 hour 27 minutes) from New Orleans to Orlando. We haven't had any problems with them. The only downside is the fact that you can't pick your seats when you buy your tickets. The seats are first come first serve.

Basically, they have three loading groups...A, B, and C. The group in which you are assigned depends upon how early you arrive to the airport, and each group only holds a certain amount of people. If you arrive early enough to get in group A, the only people who will board ahead of you are people with special needs or young children (I think the elderly may also go ahead of you...along with reboarders). If you are in group B, and you are in the back of line...there is a chance you won't get to sit with your family member(s). If you are in group C (and it is a relatively full flight) don't even count on sitting with your family member(s).

Other than that, you can't beat the prices that Southwest offer. Very friendly people as well.

Hope this helps. Anymore questions, feel free to ask!

I'm a regular on Southwest, and I am very fond of it. They are usually on time, the people are very nice, and the price can't be beat.

We are going to be flying with Jetblue for the first time. We booked online and they let you pick your seat(s) and you can watch tv. Tickets were not much more than Southwest.

We flew Southwest out of Detroit with a connection in Nashville and never had any problems, however make sure you get to the airport EARLY because SW overbooks their flights and so if you get there late the plane could be full and you won't get on. There's a neat show on A&E on Sunday and Monday nights at 10pm that follows some Southwest employees at Chicago and LAX airports. The employees are great but the system is flawed.

We have been flying Spirit (non-stop for less than SWA) for our last 4 or 5 trips and have not had any problems. Plus you can select your seats online.

Southwest is a great airline. Airline with more on time status than any of the larger (bankrupt) airlines! Their saftey record cant even be touched by the others.

I wished I lived closer to Midway airport so I can use them, unfortunatly it would take me as long to drive to Midway as it would to fly to Orlando from Ohare! :brick:

I fly SWA all the way. Besides the fact that my dad has plenty of frequent flyer miles with them we've had too many bad experiences with ATA. In 7 trips our flight has been delayed once. I really don't find that bad and it was only a half hour. I like picking your seats. Just make sure you get there early and get an A boarding card. If you do happen to make a stop though. They let you get up and pick seats. Only 15 of us stayed on at the stop in Nashville so we moved up to the front. Spread out and everything. Well enough blabbing but I would try SWA and see how you like it.

My family flies Southwest all the time, and have had nothing but good experiences with them. I also hear jetBlue is good, but the only place in New York they are is JFK (and Albany in Upstate), and I'm not sure how close you are to either. Hope this helps!

I have flown Southwest several times, and no problems! I would also look to see if Airtran flies into your local airport. I use Airtran a lot on the Atlanta-Orlando Route.

In my opinion, the discount airlines treat their customers much better than the big boys, because they want your future business!

I'd use Southwest or Airtran!

Good luck!

I flew from NY (Islip) to West Palm Beach on Southwest with 3 people. My mom is obsessive about bein early and HAD to get there about 4 hours early for the flight. The flight was okay. I don't remember much about it except for the wait to get on. We fly jetBlue now, its cheap, 25 channels of Directv, nice crew, yummy snacks, small planes (Airbus A3-80's), and they just started flights from JFK to Orlando. Hope this helps!

I have only flown twice in my life but once was with SWA out of New Hampshire. The crew we had to Nashville had one woman who was less than cordial but the crew from Nashville to Tampa were great. They sang this song that was written to the Brady Bunch theme song and we got a kick out of it. If your as paranoid as us about getting places early enough or misssing something you wont have any problems.

Jetblue doesn't fly out of Islip right?

Try Southwest

I flew Southwest with my high school marching band, and we had a great experience. We arrived at BWI 4 hours early, so we all got A boarding passes. There were about 120 of us, and we were split up on 2 flights. No one on either flight had baggage issues, and the attendents were really nice, and they talked to us about what we were going to Disney for. I was a great trip.

Try Southwest, you will probably like it!

Keep in mind Southwest doesn't fly into any other NYC airports besides Islip. They also dont serve any meals, so you might want to bring snacks along if you get hungry, drinks are free though. Since they dont pre assign seating, sometimes boarding can be a little chaotic.

I wouldnt fly Delta anymore for personal reasons (www.saveskymiles.com). To make a long story short, they have done some pretty bad things to the airline industry. I dont know where you live in relation to other NYC airports, but Continental has a hub airport at Newark with tons of daily non-stop flights into Orlando. You might consider giving them a try if they are the right price.
