It depends if you book a ticket in peak season then you will definitely get that costly. Its a peak in USA as most of the schools are off and people are roaming around on their vacations. You might get a huge discount may be later so I want to suggest you to wait and check later. there are so many websites which offers off season discounts and deals. Here are few websites like http://www.cheapflights.com/, http://www.airticketsdirect.com/, http://www.expedia.com/ and http://www.tripntourpackages.com/.

We were watching...just booked Spirit...even with baggage fees, and their seating upgrades...tickets were over $200 cheaper than the next closest carrier (Southwest)...At that point it's just a simple equation...don't know if we will ever fly them again (have heard some horror stories about customer service)...but...we will try it for that price....and I think some people forget that you get what you pay for...I'm fully expecting a no frills flight that will just take me from point A-Point B with out snacks etc.

One thing that I look at is to see if it is cheaper to fly one airline there, and a separate one on the return. I booked our flights for August 31 - September 8 for $225 per person (Syracuse). We are flying Delta there ($100) and Jet Blue on the return ($125)...it was almost $300 per person to fly with the same airline. It isn't always cheaper, but worth a look when you are booking :)

Also, living in Ottawa, we almost always drive across the border to Syracuse because it is way cheaper.

Our flights for November were $285 from Portland, ME to Orlando. Nothing cheaper out of Manchester NH or Boston. Both those cities were more expensive. This is the most we've paid for airfare in awhile. For our September trip we paid $182 and this past May we paid $219. There is no rhyme or reason for prices being what they are!!

Airfare is horrible. I think if they lowered their prices more people would fly hence more money for airlines. But that's just my thinking.
