Airfare Deal

WOW! I was putzing around on the internet last night and after checking all of my disney sites (just to make sure nothing else had changed in the last 24 hours) I went on Southwest's web site. Lo! and Behold!, I got airfare from Raleigh/Durham to Orlando for our trip in September for less that $420.00 r/t for me, my wife, and daughter. Even with the high gas prices, we are going to end up paying less this year than last for airfare! Thanks Southwest:sohappy:

I booked air from Philly on SW for July 28 for $118 r/t and that includes taxes!! The air out of Newark was $250, so even with the 1 1/2 hr drive using maybe a 1/2 tank of gas still much cheaper. I was able to get September out of Newark a month or so ago for $137 r/t w/taxes. I have found that if you buy your tickets on the airlines website you end up saving yourself a $5 transaction fee per ticket that you pay on sidestep, travelocity and others.

i have always found when booking air fare going to each airlines website is way cheaper than those travel websites ie Expedia, travelocity, orbitz etc

I am a southwest.com kind of girl! Last march my sister and cousin and I flew for $135 roundtrip from CHicago Midway to Orlando. And this October my husband and I are flying from Midway to LAX for $200. I have never had a bad experience with southwest, and their frequent flyer program is great!

All you outside of Dallas have it lucky when using Southwest, we have to wait 6 more years before Southwest can fly non stop to anywhere outside of the 5 states surrounding Texas. We have to change planes or pay higher fares on American.

I thought they repealed that law (the Wright amendment?)

They did..but the terms are very unfavorable to Southwest. Southwest has to wait to 2014 to have any direct non stop service out of the 5 state area. They can through ticket passengers and through check luggage. So to fly from DAL-MCO you have to stop in a neighboring state. If your lucky you dont have to change planes. You just sit 30 minutes before continuing on...This was the best deal Southwest could get...Still way unfair.

Last October, Southwest airline RT from Indy to Orlando, 2 people, 200.13, total. If that happens again, I'm on it. I'd pay double that now I am so desperate to go to WDW.

We just got back from Orlando flying with SW for 469.20 total with taxes for 4 of us. Now we are going back for September, could not get the same rate but for a few dollars more 148 a person we can fly from our local airport five minutes away instead of the 2 hour drive to Philly. I guess you just have to keep watching.

We flew from Chicago to Houston Hobby roundtrip in Oct of 2005, so I am guessing only Dallas has been affected? I kind of remember signs up around the Hobby airport near the southwest counters regarding that legislation, but I don't remember exactly what they said....

The Wright amendment only affected Dallas Love Field. It was designed to protect DFW airport when it first opened so it would become the major airport that it has become.

Now some 30 years down the line American used the law to keep a strangle hold on what the public living in the Dallas/Ft Worth area had to pay for air travel. An example, one summer to fly from dfw-mco was more expensive to fly from Austin to MCO. You had to connect in dfw so logically it should be cheaper....NOPE!

Ah, ok. I do remember the signs refering to Love field, there was some play on words with the stock symbol of Southwest (LUV).
