we just got back from 9 days in the park.. and it was super time.. but.. i have a few observations to share.. Food at the food and wine Kiosks was outstanding.. in fact we had great great food through out the parks( I did not eat a HAMBURGER at any time and I was banned from the Launching Pad by my wife for the rest of my life). there was one place only that we had questionable food.. Pop Century.. and judging by the crowd.. the word had gotten out and we didn't get the memo.. The food court in the past was very very good.. but the spaghetti that I had one supper was a plate of food that i won't want to revisit.. the selection was poor.. and even one window just offered specialty coffee.. No grits available in the morning nor biscuits and Gravy.. some staples from days gone by that I have come to count on.
There has been a bit of turnover as well.. and yes its been 5 years because of Covid.. when on my last 3 days and we were paying on our bill at the front desk, I asked..ARE We GETTING A BOUNCE BACK OFFER? I was looked at with total blank stares.... We have never offered a Bounce back.. in fact we have no idea what you are speaking about.. i finallly found a longer term cast member who stated to me.. Yes.. there used to be Bounce backs.. and it was lost during covid and no none of the new kids know anything about it..
the other thing i have noticed is this.. When you like your job or the leadership of your job.. you feel a true sense of well being.. i recently "started a new job" with a major company.. its the EXACT SAME JOB.. down to the same team and boss that i had the day before.. except that we were sold and now we are under some one new.. SOME ONE WHO TRULY CARES ABOUT US.. and you feel it each and every day.. RIght now in the parks.. you just don't seem to feel this.. The cast members are not dressed as sharp.. 98% of the cast members are trying to have that old magic.. but there is that two percent that , this is just a show up job. and the magic isn't as important.. there is a feeling of uncertainty as opposed to WE ARE THE BEST AT WHAT WE DO and SCREW WHO EVER IS IN SECOND PLACE.. this leadership is NOT quite getting the Disney message to every one.. not everyone has the Disney Pride.. or the Magic.
But.. on a whole the trip was great.. we had access to all the new rides.. My kid rode Tron the first day in the by 10 am.. We Rode Rides of the Resistance and its my new favorite ride.. Rattatuie was great.. and then we rode GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.. every thing about that ride is great.. the smoothness.. the music the concept.. but for me of 66 and my wife of 68.. ITS ONE AND DONE.. and if you love it and are younger then me.. its a great ride.. have fun..
We had one of the best turkey legs that i have ever had in my life.. the meal at Liberty Tavern was to die for.. the foot long hot dog right before the fireworks show at Caseys was outstanding.. and hit the spot for the two of us..
i hear all the time that the magic is no longer there...I DISAGREE.. its there.. its being buried a bit by the political battles and a couple of years of bad management.. I could feel it ..but its going to take some time and some call to order and some harsh words and some people needing to leave .. Disney may have to PAY MORE.. for good sharp help.. but i see it.. its there.. its like when Patton took over the 3rd Army.. every one needs to be pulling the right way and at the same time.. and every one must look sharp in uniform.. when you look sharp .. you are going to act sharp.. its right on the surface.. and a lot of the cast is there.. RIGHT THERE RIGHT NOW.. but you have to bring Magic from the top.. from the head guy...and he needs to bring that disney pride back.. Covid is not over but its better.. its time for the Magic to return.. lets hope that leadership can get this done.. I wish you all well..
