Africa Marketplace expansion coming to Harambe at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Thanks for the photos. The rustic fence theming is a bit too much for me. Leave ugly to the real world.

Couldn't agree with you more, but Joe Rhode loves all aspects of the real world. Our ugly is his beautiful. :)

True. But, keep in mind, I've heard people say (about Chester and Hester's) "This used to be an old parking lot". I'm still not sure if that means the Imagineers have succeeded or failed in their efforts?

It's kind of a tough balance between being appropriate to the theme, and looking like an old dilapidated fence or parking lot.

Still, looking forward to this area, as the rest of Harambe, including the new FoTLK area is so fantastic.

Going back to Joe Rhode here - he posted some pics not so long ago on instagram with long writeups. One image had descriptions and defense of Dinorama and the parking lot in particular. To sum it up: It's near impossible to make such a parking lot the traditional way in Florida, the asphalt would never set. The imagineers had to come up with a new way of creating that same feeling as a piece of art (pigmented cement I'm assuming). He's very proud of their ingenuity and the results.

Yeah, get rid of that mess and the park is potentially the best WDW park. Right now i'd sa it's a solid #2, solidly ahead of two parks in desperate need of attention.

The only thing holding DAK back right now is the low ride count.

Better than MK???? Interesting. I do agree with AK being higher on the list than HS (such a hot mess) and dare I say Epcot (which needs a good updating in my opinion). AK still needs more classic rides though. Rides that people cannot wait to enjoy. Even though I'm sure I will get flamed for saying this, but, I wish there was more of an opportunity to see Disney characters as well-whether that be through M&G's, rides, shows, etc. I know the theming is animals but it would be nice if Mickey Mouse had some presence in the park somewhere.

I think a Lion King dark ride would make a huge impact.

Mickey and Minnie have a M&G at the adventurers outpost- you can even FP it.

Animal kingdom is my favorite park- I like it better than MK- in fact, it's almost always the first park we visit.

I've often said before that a "Critter country" area based on the animal cartoon Disney characters would be a nice addition. Even just some smaller scale stuff like dark rides, flat rides, M&Gs. There's such a wealth of properties that could be developed, many of which have no presence in the parks: Bambi, 101 Dalmatians, Lady & the Trap, Fox & the Hound, The Rescuers, Pocahontas, Tarzan

I do love this idea!

The new area looks like it's going to be amazing! I really applaud Disney for going the extra mile. I think AK will really benefit from several of these small touches. I love how the park has so many hidden spots that you get to discover.

Just saw this video on the Africa Marketplace over at damouse:

http://damouse.com/2015/05/20/walt-disney-imagineering-previews-harambe-market/

This park just continues to get better. Next year we get night safaris and the RoL nighttime show. And 2017 we get Pandora. This is, and will continue to be, my favorite park in Orlando. Top-notch theming in Harambe which has not turned into a layered town, as opposed to how it was originally constructed with a single road. I hope that there are some more additions in Anandapur between now and when Avatar opens as I can't believe that anymore will be added to Harambe. How nice is it that you will be able to see the train as it passes by, adding some kinetics to the area. Man, I can't get back here soon enough.
They pulled it from the Disney Parks Blog. Photos to go along with the video.

Looks so good. That layering is what's missing on MSUSA nowadays. Side streets, separate stores, feels like a real town. I can't wait to see it in person.
People call me crazy, but these are the types of reasons why I say DAK is closing in on MK. Obviously it has a long way to go in terms of rides, but in terms of theme? MK is blown out of the water imo. MK is a mix of everything and doesn't flow well. DAK flows perfectly and slowly it is coming into it's own and gaining more small (and larger scale) attractions.

For me, DAK is tied with Epcot right now only because it doesn't have a nighttime show yet. Once RoL opens, the ToL show, nighttime Safaris, etc, I expect this park to pass Epcot in my personal rankings.
