For those of you who did not see the American Film Institutes 10 Top 10, Disney dominated the animated category (no surprise) taking 9 out of 10 spots. Here was the order:

10. Finding Nemo
9. Cinderella
8. Shrek (the only non-Disney film)
7. Beauty and the Beast
6. Toy Story
5. Fantasia
4. Lion King
3. Bambi
2. Pinocchio
1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Personally, I thought that it would be either Lion King or Beauty and the Beast in the number one spot. I was also surprised that Aladdin did not make the list.

Looking at the list again, I am also surprised that The Little Mermaid did not make it. I also think Ratatouille deserves to be in the top ten. In my opinion it is the best Pixar movie.

I was totally watching some of this show last night!

I understand why snow white is number one, but I personally don't love it all that much.

I prefer Alladin over the Lion King.

Shrek is ok with me because I think many older people enjoy all of the Adult humor within.

I am also not a huge fan of Fantasia, but I see why it is held in high regard.

Did the show mention their reasoning for Pinocchio?

Here was the criteria that they looked at:

CRITICAL RECOGNITION Formal commendation in print, television and digital media.

MAJOR AWARD WINNER Recognition from competitive events including awards from peer groups, critics, guilds and major film festivals.

POPULARITY OVER TIME Including success at the box office, television and cable airing, and DVD/VHS sales and rentals.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE A film's mark on the history of the moving images through visionary narrative devices, technical innovation, or other ground breaking achievements.

CULTURAL IMPACT A film's mark on American society in matters of style and substance.

Um, did somebody forget that Toy Story 2 knocks the sockes off Toy Story? Yeah, innovative whatever.

I can easily not see Mermaid there. Fun movie, but not that great. The actual plot is that Ariel can't do anything but get herself into trouble and have the men in her life bail her out (Eric/Dad).

Oh, and Shrek 2 was better than Shrek also.

Pinnoccio would be above Snow White on my list.

Kung Fu Panda would be VERY close to making the list as well.

I also agree that Ratatouille is VERY close to making this list.

The problem with Fantasia is what everybody is really afraid to admit. It could be chopped in half and be a GREAT film. But a large part is filler.

^Agree on all fronts, except:

a) Kung Fu Panda's inclusion, though that's likely only because I haven't seen it yet/desperately want to.

b) Thought Snow White was slightly more deserving than Pinnochio.

Other than that, the rest stays. My only qualm is that BTTF wasn't higher than #10 in the Sci-Fi category.

I don't know about top 10, but it is one great movie. The animation is absolutely breathtaking.

It's the best Dreamworks animated I've ever seen.

We just finished watching it last night (we TIVOed it) and we wondering how they decided. Thanks for the info!

Though it was a fun film, Kung Fu Panda is not even close to being in the same class as the rest of these films. I'm surprised that the following were not on the list (maybe they were close).

1)The Incredibles
2) Aladdin
3) The Iron Giant
