Aerosmith's Joe Perry: Band not breaking up

Aerosmith's lead guitarist Joe Perry says the legendary rock band isn't breaking up _ although they may be in need a new singer.
Perry said on the micro-blogging site Twitter late Monday that Aerosmith is "not splitting up" but "looking for a new singer to work with" amid growing speculation about the future of the band and the role of front man Steven Tyler.
Tyler has been quoted as saying he is considering a solo career.
Perry said Monday on WKXL, a radio station in Concord, N.H., that Tyler hasn't communicated his intentions with anyone in the band and that he found out about Tyler's solo wishes after going online.
Tyler could not immediately be reached for comment.
The 61-year-old Tyler was injured when he fell off a stage during an Aug. 5 performance in South Dakota, and the band canceled the remainder of its summer tour.
"After the tour got canceled, he just kept drifting off and doing other things. We would hear things from different people. He wasn't talking directly to anybody in the band," Perry told WKXL, referring to Tyler. "So basically, he just made the announcement that he was taking some time off."

I can't tell you who, because it would incriminate this rock star, but I am very tight with a friend of Steven Tyler. Steven has fallen off the wagon - hard - an is having significant drug problems right now. He has left the band because of it, and is, according to my friend, in "seriously bad shape" right now.

I hate internet rumors based on mystery sources, and I wish I could name my source, but except for telling you he is the frontman of a MAJOR rock band (of the same Aerosmith era), I can't divulge more.

This is 100% fact, and I ask fans of Steven to pray for him.

Those of you who want to rip on me for not naming my source or posting a link, please be sensitive that this is a bad situation and people like my friend and Joe Perry are actually trying to get him help and not make him look bad.

This has been going on for several months, since the start of their last tour.

I work with someone who lives in the same town as Steven Tyler and who sees him around occassionally. He saw him just recently at a supermarket and said he was in bad, BAD shape.

If Steven Tyler leaves, they might as well break up. He is irreplaceable.

This we can agree upon. Lead singers can be replaced successfully if they arn't really too established in the long term (Faith No More), but i really hope this isn't going to be another Queen w/ Paul Rodgers situation, which really annoyed me when they released orginal material under the Queen banner. This is why I am so glad John Paul Jones got sidetracked with Them Crooked Vultures (Album on Youtube and is excellent btw!), as there is no way any tour should be made under the Led Zep bannner without Robert Plant.

agreed. Even though Joe Perry is just about (or evenly) as recognizable as Steven Tyler, nobody can replace him or carry the greatness as Steven. His range, style, air, and everything is so unique and I think that bringing in a new singer would ruin what is "Aerosmith."

If he really is having a drug problem lately, I feel horrible for him, and after everything the band has been through...break up if they must, but don't replace Steven. :dazzle: It won't be the same.

As we steer this conversation further and further away from Disney, I'll just remark that I think the problem becomes when you have someone trying to do a Steven Tyler impression.

I'll try and steer it back...

If Tyler is replaced do you think Disney are more likely to:

a) Keep the ride exactly the same
b) Incorporate the new singer into the ride
c) Replace Aerosmith

One of my favorite bands of all time, and now on the verge of imploding, or at least loosing their singer Steven Tyler.

It may not affect the ride though (maybe giftshop?) if Tyler leaves, but if it does and Disney wants a replacement for a new group (this is definitely not likely) but I'd for one vote for GSmack.

okay honestly what is gonna happen to Rock 'N Rollercoaster? stop saying its gonna be replaced by these pops bands but if you really know what your talking about than tell me i wanna know, and i was talking to my dad about this and he said Aerosmith has broke up before and got back together so why should we have Rock 'N Rollercoaster redone when the band could get back together

My guess it will be turned into a "Cars" rollercoaster with Lightning McQueen. Disney is already workiing on that ride at another park, it just makes sense.

If I were in charge, I would take the welcome opportunity to get rid of the G-force Records/rock n' roll theme entirely. It doesn't serve the well-established 1930s Hollywood-that-never-was theme of Sunset Boulevard (which is the best thing DHS has going for it).

I would redress the RNR area as a seedy "Big City Underworld" of bootleggers and gangsters and the building would resemble the infamous Tombs prison:
ill08.jpg

We, the guests, would play the roll of gangsters being booked to serve time (for bootlegging or gambling - nothing too sinister) when our gangster friends come to break us out. We board coaster trains looking like vintage Ambassor Eight cars and take off into the disorienting lights of the big city, with the police in hot pursuit. As we exit we see the gangsters who broke us out in the pre-show segment back behind bars (in AA form) pleading for us to come back and break them out.

Sort of like the guy who took over as the lead singer of Journey. Does an amazing impression of Steve Perry. Almost too good.
