We decide to extend our stay by two days in September but when I called I could not extend our package. What are my chances of someone canceling and my being able to extend our reservation? Otherwise, I have to move to a different resort and do a room only.

Are you on a special offer booking like Free Dining? If so, it may not be that the resort itself is totally booked, but that all of the slots allocated for the discount have been taken.

You can try calling back every morning and continue to try adding the extra days, but you may be out of luck.

Be persistent. Cancellations happen all the time. You just have to be patient.

If you plan on staying no matter what, I'd book the room only for the extra days (so you have somewhere!), and then cancel it if/when you get to extend your pacakage.

It is likely that the hotel isn't full but the rooms allocated for the discount are all gone (as said above). Have you tried booking the hotel for those extra nights online? If you can book the room online then you know the hotel is not sold out. I would recommend doing this and even if you don't get your package it is likely that you will be able to stay in the same room for your entire stay including the added nights. It's not guaranteed you will stay in your room but the hotel will do its best to accommodate you. Just make sure you let them know in advance and then double check at check in. The only thing you will have to do is that on your original check out date, you'll have to go down to the front desk and recheck in which is just you showing your licenses again and getting new keys (because the first set of keys will expire on your original check out date). Does that makes sense?? If not, let me know and I'll try to explain it again. =)

Thank you! I am going to keep trying but in the mean time, I made room only reservations at a value. We had to do two rooms because we have 3 children but it was about the same cost because I had a discount code. I'm just sad because we will lose our free dinning.

Disney has a unique and odd way of handling reservations.

As you've already read, it will be nearly impossible to extend your Free Dining reservation. However, this DOESN'T mean you have to give up Free Dining for your entire trip.

But let's even forget about Free Dining for a minute so I can explain how Disney's reservations system works. Let's say you have a package reservation for September 1 - 6. And now you want to add Sept. 7 and 8. So you call up Disney and they tell you you can't add those 2 nights to your reservation.

In the above scenario, it is entirely possible that there ARE rooms available in your resort for those 2 additional nights. But when you call up to add those 2 nights to your existing reservation, Disney isn't just looking to see if Sept. 7 and 8 are available, they're looking to see if September 1 - 8 are available. So let's just say that September 5, for example, is completely sold out at your resort ... because they can't find availability for all 8 nights, they can't extend your reservation. Now, of course, this makes no sense because you already have a room for the night of September 5 ... but to Disney's computer system, the resort is sold out for the span of September 1 - 8.

So in such a scenario, what you do is call up and just try to make a totally separate room-only reservation for September 7 and 8 at your resort. During the process, don't even mention that you already have a reservation at that same resort for the 6 days before it; that will just confuse the reservationist.

If there is availability at your resort for those 2 nights, then make that reservation. You will now have a room at your resort for ALL of the nights that you want. It will be 2 separate reservations, however. The second one will be a room-only reservation, so you won't be able to even BUY the Disney Dining Plan. But that's OK, you can pay for food out-of-pocket for those 2 days ... this is MUCH better than throwing away the Free Dining you already have.

And as far as park tickets, simply add 2 days to the tickets from your package reservation ... upgrading an existing ticketcosts exactly the same as buying the ticket that way in the first place. Adding an additional two days to an existing ticket (a ticket that is already between 4-8 park days to begin with) will cost a total of about $16 per ticket. This is MUCH cheaper than if you booked those 2 final nights as a package ... a separate 2-day ticket would cost in the neighborhood of $180 ... no matter where you come from, paying $16 is a lot better than paying $180, right?!

If I didn't explain any of this clearly, please feel free to ask me to explain further.

I just went through a similiar situation. I wanted to extend by 1 day. They could not extend an extra day, however they said if we could arrive a day earlier we could add the day to the beginning of the trip. We were able to do this and still keep the dinning for that first day.

I always think of the reservation system as a big puzzle. The pieces will all eventually fit if you press hard enough LOL :)

Why I make my reservations 99% of the time online. Then call to link the reservations together if need be.

I was just curious when you booked - I had booked free dining, for our Sept-Oct trip, last yearl (they offered it for trips booked prior to the end of the year). At the end of June I wanted to extend our trip and was told I could not because my discount had expired - but they now had the new discount for free DP - I simply had them change the code on my reservation to the new discount. I had to tell them to do that though...but everything worked out and we are on our way for 9/24-10/3

Issues about semantics aside (you can't "lose" what you never had), I'm guessing, with three kids, you were staying in one of the rare rooms that can handle 5 people? Maybe Port Orleans Riverside (but it's just a guess), using a trundle bed?

I'm certainly not saying this is a more affordable option, but did you look into seeing if free dining discounts were still available at the 1BR Villas at either Kidnai Village @ Animal Kingdom or at Bay Lake Tower? Granted, it's more expensive, but the offset of not paying for dining will absorb some of that cost, 130 a night or so, not to mention having a kitchen where you can prepare the meals NOT covered under the dining plan for those few days, and you'll be in a nicer resort with more amenities.

Just throwing it out there. After all, it's not MY money :D
