hi- I am going end of may and the reservations for mickeys backyard bbq are not available. Any tips on how to grab a reservation or whats the best strategy? I know people cancel all the time but I wanted to avoid having to log on every 5 minutes and check.
Any help is appreciated.

I would call a few times and see what happens. If this is something that you kind of just wanna do then I'd just fully skip out on it, but if it's a must do then I would keep calling back and checking online until something becomes available.

You could always try closer to your dates. ADR releasing seems to be an issue, according to a few CM's I spoke with at WDW-DINE...their systems are not syncing properly.

The reason I say this is that Mickeys BBQ isn't all that a popular event, compared to the seating available. I would suspect you wouldn't have trouble getting in closer to your reservations. Heck, I'd almost even try a walk up. Ft. Wilderness is just too remote for most Disney visitors to even think about.

You shouldn't have to log off and log back in. You can just keep checking and checking for openings for the date(s)/#/time, etc. ... if something does open up and it's somehow logged you out, you can log back in while booking it. Ultimately, stalking the website and calling are your best bet.

That would work....if the website worked.

You have never seen Donald telling you that the server timed out?

Amazing!

I had the server timed out issue back in early March when I was trying to book lodging, but I haven't been having any issues with the dining area beyond the 180+10. I added a few ADRs a little over a week ago and the process was issue free. I've also been trying to upgrade a few ADR times (i.e. check a couple times a day) and no issues there either. That's not to say I won't experience issues down the road at some point- but right now it's been smooth sailing.

thanks for all the help! I was surprised it was booked because I checked the day before and it was open. I called and they said it was booked but that it probably could open up. I will keep checking.
I have no clue about where fort wilderness is. Is it far? I am staying at the beach club.???? thanks

Take a bus to Magic Kingdom. Then take the boat to Fort Wilderness. Its an enjoyable boat ride. Allow about 90 minutes to get there... Have fun! :)

We love the BBQ - been 4 times now. Of those 4 visits (all in summer), 3 have been totally packed. One had empty spaces at some of the tables, but it may have still been sold out - there were heavy storms during that day which likely scared a lot of folks off. We still had a blast. This summer may be one of our last visits as our DD is now 9 and has told us this is her last 'official' kid visit and next time she won't want to do all the 'kid' things!

We did the BBQ once... years ago, for Thanksgiving and LOVED it!!! I would call 407 WDW-DINE every morning, before your vacation. It sure can't hurt :)
