Wow, so much helpful information in here!!

Shannon, thanks for including the link to those training programs--I was interested to note that the Galloway plan started this week...starting to wonder if I shouldn't have signed up for the ToT 10 miler!! With my first 5K already under my belt, I'm sure I could have been prepared for it! But it'll be fun to do the Happy Haunted 5K for my first runDisney event.

I also checked out the Garmins suggested, and put the 210 on my wish list...my birthday's in July, so you never know. ;)

No prob! The 210 looks nice...that's the one I would probably get if I were in the market for a new one. Or I would splurge on the 610. And my husband would kill me. :lookaroun

In all seriousness though, I like that the newer Garmins are more like normal-sized watches compared to the older ones. My 305 is HUGE!

I would love to meet up and have a Disney running buddy. What way on the Metro-North do you live? I've lived in 3 different cities 2 on the Hudson Line and one on the CT line so I'm pretty familiar with the areas up there. I use the Jeff Galloway training so my long runs are Saturdays which I always have off so I'd love to have someone join along.

I'm on the Hudson line. I've been telling myself for ages to take a ride in, even just to stroll around, so having an actual reason will help make it happen! I'll reply to your PM.

Good to know that you'd go with the 210--is that with the HRM or without? (of course, I'm also going to have to go look at the 610 and see just what makes it worth risking your life...)

Have a great weekend!!

Well, getting new sneaks at a running shop is a great first step... What I would do as far as training is to slowly up the distance every week and pace. Don't want to get shin splints by running too much too soon even though you do walk a lot.
Another thing not to overlook is post-run nutrition to help recover your muscles. Biking and running gives me a good excuse to drink chocolate milk and have some carbs. Oh, and using a foam roller pre and post workout is good too.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I have been making sure I eat post working out. I had heard the chocolate milk thing before so being a good NYer I grab a bagel and chocolate milk during my cool down/walk back home and then eat it to replenish.

So as of now I am leaning towards the standard Nathan's running vest and then just buying a bladder to put in the back. Have any of you done that before? I like Nathan so far over the other brands because the pockets are in the front which makes accessing my phone and such easier and in the event the bladder breaks (happened to me while caving once) my stuff won't get soaked just my back. Also is 50 bucks for the whole system (bladder and backpack) a pretty standard price or is that too high? I want to make sure I'm not being ripped off yah know.

Also what else do you guys suggest for replenishing lost nutrients and such. Right now I eat 3 square meals a day and since the runs are short as of now (30 minutes 3 times a week so far 2.5 miles not including warm up or cool down) and then I grab something on my cool down walk back home. As I start to up my distance in the up coming weeks what should I be looking for? I keep hearing about those honey packs/drops and saw them in JackRabbit yesterday and was curious. I know it is all personal preference but I was just curious what everyone uses. My friend who has run internationally has told me don't trust the race to have water or refueling stuff because sometimes they use really unsanitary methods and to run with as much as you think you'll need. Do ya'll agree with that?
