Advice: 16 night stay!

Hi all,

Like most new posters, I would like a bit of advice on booking/planning my first stay in Disney.

My Brother is getting married in Disney (and I am best man) in April 2015, me and my partner have booked our flights from the end of March until Mid April for a 16 night stay.

I have a few questions;

We are looking to stay in POP Century for the whole stay but we have been discussing staying at Port Orleans (thats where most of the family are staying) for the night of the wedding, is it worth it? Packing all our bags, checking in etc just for one/two nights?!

Next, is 16 nights too long to stay within Disney? Or should we just have a week in Disney then one week on I-Drive? If we are to stay in Disney, we will visit universal on a day trip and there is also the wedding so that would leave 13 full days in Disney. If this is the case, any recommendations on how to plan a timetable for these days? Would be cool to see some of your plans.

In short, Shall we stay in Pop Century the whole time and is 16 nights in Disney to long? Its our first ever time to Disney World, I've been to the one is Paris for one day before but thats it.

Also, any other recommendations would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

Firstly - Welcome aboard

If you can afford to stay the additional days at Port Orleans (French Quarter would be my recommnedation) then go for it - its a great resort with a great pool and the boats to DownTown Disney

Next, is 16 nights too long to stay within Disney? Or should we just have a week in Disney then one week on I-Drive?
16 nights is great. With time off for the wedding and your Universal visit, you have time to visit all the parks at a leisurely pace and have rest days / pool days inbetween so that you don't burn yourselves out. Don't forget at least a one day visit to SeaWorld

Would be cool to see some of your plans.
Typically, over a 14 day stay, we do two park days followed by a rest day. The rest day is usually at the resort pool or going to Disney's Waterparks

Its our first ever time to Disney World, I've been to the one is Paris for one day before but thats it.
I'm guessing you're from the UK ???
If that's the case then comparing DLP to WDW is like comparing Blackpool Pleasure Beach to Alton Towers - there is no comparison. WDW will blow you away

If it were me, I'd stay at the Pop til the night before the wedding, then Port Orleans for a couple of nights, then off-site after that. You won't want to go back to Pop after you've been to anywhere else.

Yes I am from the UK (actually live in the Netherlands at the moment though) Even though I enjoyed Disney Paris greatly, I was a little disappointed with the 'WOW' factor. That might have also been due to the costumer service, which I know is suppose to be amazing in Disney World.

The other option would be to stay in Port Orleans for a few extra days and not staying in POP at all but that would mean less days inside the Disney resort........ I think i'd prefer to stay longer at a cheaper hotel..... I think.....

Just a head's up so you won't be shocked by the crowds at Disney ~ your trip falls directly during one of the busiest periods at WDW, the week before and the week after Easter. This is a popular time for schools to be on spring break and the parks will be crazy packed. If you prepare ahead and take advantage of FP+ and extra magic hours, you will be able to enjoy yourselves in spite of the masses.

With what the crowd levels will be those weeks, you will need all those days. With that many days, however, you will be able to do everything you want if you do the early hours. We did one of those weeks in 13, and the late hours were still pretty crowded. The early hours were great though.
I would suggest that you try to get a room at AoA in the Mermaid section over the POP. The bathrooms are much smaller, but they are soooooo much newer.

Thanks for the suggestion but we get a discount at POP as part of the wedding 'package'. POP was the only choice from all the Budget hotels. Its a shame we have to go in such a busy time but hopefully it will not spoil the experience.

Just do the early hours and make your fastpass choices early and you'll be fine. Some restaurants will fill up quickly, so make sure and do you reservations at 180 days out.

Another suggestion, make or buy one of those raincovers for your stroller. Get one big enough to cover your backpack and daughter and if it doesn't come with Velcro on the bottom to keep it off the ground, it's easy to stick some to it, so you don't run over it and topple your stroller which I've seen happen. I don't know where you buy them, but I've seen tons of them in the parks.
