Adventures by Disney

Disclaimer: I couldn't find where to put this, so here it is!

I'm wondering if anyone has done a tour with Adventures by Disney. My husband and I are thinking about doing one in a couple years, maybe to NYC. We've never been and we're terrified of huge cities, but we've always wanted to go. It's $2599 per person for 4 days, 3 nights, staying at the Manhattan Club. Here's the website! Anyone?

Keep in mind though that the Panama Canal cruises are the repositioning cruises and are usually not expensive, plus you have domestic flights so you really cannot compare that to an International ABD tour. Adventures by Disney tours are Luxury guided tours so you cannot compare them with other run of the mill tour companies. You have to look at the high end tour companies and you will see that their pricing is very similar. Also the ABD tours have little things that they do that put them above the others such as the private after hours tours of the Vatican museum and the Sistine chapel with the Italy tour that I was on. That alone was well worth the price as well as being "fast passed" to the front of the line with many local attractions while the other tour companies watch you walk by. There is no comparison when it comes to those little extras.

Definitely. And if those perks and front of the line or after hours experiences are what you're after, Disney or another of the high-end luxury tours is the way to go. I agree.

Personally, it's not for me. I'm more after the experience of the cultures of the average people like me in other countries. That's why I would choose a B&B type self-guided tour. I'd rather plan my own activities 100%, create my own itinerary, go at my own speed, and live the adventure somewhat on the fly as it unfolds. I've learned that being part of group tours isn't for me at all. Particularly as I get older I'm less and less patient with that sort of structure.

If someone is simply wanting to go somewhere a luxury tour, although nice, certainly isn't the only way to get there or find a truly rewarding, fulfilling experience. Planning travel outside one's comfort zone can be daunting, no doubt. A few years back I wouldn't have even begun to know where to look or find resources. I definitely do now. I'm rounding 3rd with my boys and ooooh we've got big plans to explore the world sooner than later. :D

ABD does offer some great itineraries. They're getting more and more diverse which is very cool! I remember when they first started they didn't have near as many options. I wish they hadn't discontinued the day-long tour of the Disney Studios. I would've done that when we were in California. :p

Thanks for all the responses! I'd like to do one, but it'll probably be a few years. I think the only one we'd pay to do would be New York. The rest are out of our price range!

I agree that these tours are not for everyone, but for those that do go on them they are well worth the money in my opinion. We stayed in some beautiful hotels over there and I cannot wait to go back! We did have a lot of time on our own to explore which was very nice especially in Venice.

I agree with you on the the day tour. They actually offer 3 Southern California tours now with the original taking you through Jim Henson studios. I would love personally love to see that! The other two are geared towards the runners which I think is very cool.
