Amazing that modern WDI can't even replicate a 60 year old sign without finding away to somehow lessen it.

Have you looked at the picture of the sign from the 50’s? This almost looks identical.

I have, and that one looks far more charming and has more ornamentation. Not much more, but enough.
This new sign just needs some more torches, and maybe some other small touches and it'll be near perfect. Just looks a little unfinished how it is now.

I'm sure they'll place props on those two platforms, backlit with flickering orange light at night. Crates and chests and barrels, because barrels are mandatory. A lookout's telescope and an explorers parchment map. And then age it all and paint the barrels with self-referential initials and dates of birth of the 25 year old WDI interns who created this. Plus a special ode to Kim Irvine of some sort. Maybe a hat box addressed to Mlle. Irvine, Grand Hotel, French Polynesia, labeled "Ladies Hat" to play up that line of the lyrics from the Tiki Room.
Lots and lots of props. Barrels! The birthdates of the interns displayed like 08-14-94 on the barrels. Whimsy! Self-reference! More barrels!
It will be great once it's done.

They need to send the intern on another run to Oceanic Arts in Whittier.
And this time, leave the Tesla charging in Glendale and take a truck that can carry more stuff.

I hope those new items are just placeholders. Otherwise it means they have no intention of covering up that bare bamboo.
On another note, why on earth is this project taking so long? The intern shows up and adds one thing every day but only if he can find it at Michaels.

I'm bumping this thread four months later because we never really got a final product photograph, and in my day I was known to do The Bump on the dance floor too.
Here's the Adventureland marquee as of this morning, Sunday February 23rd, just before park opening, so you'll know what it looks like the next time you are at Disneyland.
