Advantages to Deluxe Hotels

I have most recently stayed at the moderate price range hotels and am considering staying at a deluxe hotel for our next visit but am trying to justify the additional cost. I realize that Contemporary, GF and Poly have monorail access and are close to MK. But what other advantages do the deluxe hotels have that the lower cost hotels don't have? Are the rooms bigger?

Yes, the rooms are bigger and have inside-access rather than outside motel-style access. And, with the exception of AKL, are much closer to the parks (Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian are a monorail ride away from Epcot and the MK, the Beach & Yacht Club and Boardwalk are a walk/boat ride away from Epcot.)
Other than that, they're just fancier accommodations. I'm used to staying in value/moderate Disney resorts (I've stayed in nicer places outside Disney though) and am always absolutely overwhelmed just walking through deluxe resorts.

Advantages of a Deluxe over a Moderate Resort

  • Larger: (344-476 sq ft vs 314 sq ft)
  • Most rooms accommodate 5 guests
  • Typically 2 Queen beds vs. typical 2 Double beds in Mods
  • Multiple onsite TS, including Signature Dining and Character Dining
  • Suites
  • Club-level Concierge
  • Fitness Center
  • Kid’s Activities and Child Care
  • Larger, elaborately themed pools (some zero entry) with Awesome Slides
  • 24-hour Room Service
  • Valet Parking
  • Balcony
  • Interior air-conditioned hallways instead of exterior
  • Best locations and transportation options (walking, boating, or monorails to parks)

The landscaping is great too, many more flowers and things do seem neater.

BTW, Caribbean Beach has rooms of 340 sq ft (largest of the mods) while WL and AKL are 344 sq feet, but do have larger beds.

I really want to stay at a Deluxe resort during the trip we're planning for November. I haven't stayed at the Polynesian or the Contemporary since I was a kid.

WL and AKL are less expensive than the other deluxe resorts, probably due to their room size - but both have great theming!

If money is an issue, but you want to try a deluxe, I would recommend one of these two resorts.

I have stayed at just about every resort on property and once you stay in the deluxe resorts it's really hard to go back to the moderates.

Not only are they convenient for me, but I like the extra room for my family. I also like the fact that I can get concierge service there so that if it's brutally hot in the parks, I can go back to my room, have a cold drink and a snack from concierge and relax.

I also love the theming especially at WL and AKL. i absolutely love the Christmas decorations at WL.

You do get more in the way of amenities also. Robes in the closet, internet hook up. (Most recently when I stayed at the GF and the Poly)you get a desk that has the plugs built in which I really liked about them. The digital safe is great too. You can easily fit your laptop in there plus any other valuables you want to keep safe. The new room upgrades are really nice.

I know that the Contemp, the Poly and the GF have the flat screen tv's which do free up more space in the room.

If you're on a true vacation, not just a quick weekend trip, you almost NEED a deluxe. We enjoy the resort as much as the actual parks. Very hard to go ack to the mods once you make the jump:lol:
I almost forgot...the Spa's (although I've only been to the one @ SSR ... FABULOUS splurge)
