ADRs In One Week-Am I nuts?

Hi All,

I just realized that I am able to make my ADRs one week from today :D. My mom and I are going to the World October 28 - November 2, staying at OKW and are not using a dining plan.

My ADR plan is:

Monday-Coral Reef dinner
Tuesday-50's Prime Time late lunch
Wednesday-House of Blues dinner
Thursday-No ADR
Friday-Liberty Tree lunch

We like to have one sit down meal per day. Neither of us are particularly picky eaters, and we're not fancy "foodie" type people either.

My question is am I nuts to not have an ADR for Thursday knowing that we are going to want a sit down meal? I'd like to have one day where we have nothing scheduled and can do what we want, when we want.

Not nuts! We do the same thing. I schedule all the ADR's I really want, but there's times open where we go with the flow. Usually we head to DTD and pick somewhere there. One time we walked over to the Swan & Dolphin from BC where we were staying, and ended up at Il Mulino's which I'd never even heard of before. We ended up really liking it. Not everyone in my family loves to have everything planned out, so I have to be flexible and leave some things up in the air for our trips. :)

its still good. We have a Disney Visa, and usually save our rewards dollars for a girl card at Epcot, and eat, eat, eat our way to oblivion! To do a sit down meal then do the WS during food and wine isn't something we can do, so we usually do a sit down breakfast, ride the water mice (I think they're called searayers now) then head to Epcot. Check out the Food and Wine offerings here on site prior to your visit, decide what you want to sample then go from there :)

I'm thinking maybe breakfast at Olivia's then we can go wherever we want from there. I know I can do Olivia's with no reservation and we won't have to worry about making sure we get up and out the door on time to get to an ADR!

Well if you're nuts then that makes me nuts too because I'm doing the same thing except on a Wednesday. We're going to AK that day and I just don't know how long we'll stay and there really aren't any restaurants at AK that we particularly like or want to try. I'm assuming at this point that we'll either go back to the hotel and eat a QS dinner and swim or we'll go to DTD and eat there. Who knows - maybe we'll go put-putting and grab something?

This trip I've left a lot of open space to do whatever we want. We leave on Saturday at 1pm and I have nothing planned for that day and I basically have nothing planned for the Friday before. We have dinner reservations at Le Cellier, but otherwise the entire day is open. Back when I was in college I used to be such a free spirit, fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of person and had such a good time with that mentality. But, after I went to law school and had kids, my mindset went totally the other direction and now I'm completely OCD and have a hard time letting things remain "unplanned." So, we'll see if I revert back to my old-self this trip or if the freedom will drive me crazy???

AK is never a full day for me whether I'm with Mom or DH, I'm planning on DTD and eating at HOB on our AK day! Mom wasn't thrilled with the choices at AK either. We had such a great trip last spring with one ADR per day, I want to make sure her second trip is just as great. On her first trip I had a lot planned because she had no clue what she wanted to see/do, but now that she's been there once and has a better understanding of it, I want to have enough freedom to make some decisions on the fly! It is a bit unnerving to not have everything planned, but I'm sure we'll be fine!

Not at all we usually leave one or two days to see how we feel and what we want. We never gave a problem getting an ADR. Don't expect BOG, but you will be surprised what you can get into when already there! Have a great trip

Thanks! I don't think Mom would want to go to BOG, she's slightly more picky than I am and I don't think she'd be too thrilled with the menu. I think it sounds fabulous, but I'll probably have to try to figure out a way to do a solo trip if I want to eat there, DH doesn't want to try it either

No you are not nuts. I don't do ADR's because it forces me into a strict schedule. With so many schedules and deadlines at home that is one thing I don't want to deal with on vacation. Other than MK on day one we don't have much of a schedule when we go to Disney. We'll take some snacks with us and do a QS meal in the parks. We usually do one character meal when we arrive as our "we have officially arrived" thing but that's about it. Over the years the QS options have gotten better. It's not just burgers and pizza. There are decent options we can eat quickly and get back to the rides which is why we are there.

I can appreciate the no schedule thing, but we really do want to have one TS meal per day. The QS locations are getting much better though!

Yeah, I'm kind of bummed. I think I can probably talk DH in to trying it at some point though. He's pretty adventurous when it comes to dining, but if something sounds too "fancy" he won't want to try it!

To be completely honest, the menu may sound fancy, but its still salmon, steak, pork chops, etc. I hope you get to try it!!

Your not nuts these are solid choices. Having Thursday open is a good idea too sometimes you just want to grab something quick or snack around EPCOT.

Actually, just last night DH & I were talking about trying to plan a trip in September :))) and he was kind of bummed that we probably won't be able to get an ADR there, so I guess he's changed his mind!

Now just keep calling you might luck into a cancellation!:)

Very true. I think I'm going to keep checking and if something pops up I may book it even though we don't know for sure yet that we're going to be able to take the trip. We should find out in the next two weeks if he can take the time off so I'll be able to cancel in plenty of time if we don't actually get to take the trip
